Amerei Frey, called Ami,[4] is a noblewoman of House Frey and the eldest daughter of Merrett Frey and Mariya Darry.[4] Her promiscuity has earned her the nickname Gatehouse Ami.[5]

Appearance

According to Jaime Lannister, Amerei is attractive but has a pinched, chinless face. She has long legs, full breasts, and brown eyes.[6]

History

When she was young, Amerei was discovered in the stables having sex with three grooms at the same time. This led her parents to marry her to Ser Pate of the Blue Fork, a hedge knight of humble beginnings. Pate's cousin, Tom of Sevenstreams, sang at the wedding.[3]

Recent Events

A Clash of Kings

Amerei's husband, Pate, is slain by Ser Gregor Clegane during the War of the Five Kings,[6] making her a widow.[4]

A Storm of Swords

Amerei is among the Frey women presented to Robb Stark, King in the North, when he comes to the Twins for Lord Edmure Tully's wedding.[7]

A Feast for Crows

Ser Kevan Lannister has his son Lancel, the new Lord of Darry, marry Ami to ease the change of allegiance after the Red Wedding. This allows Lancel to strengthen his claim on the Darry lands, since Ami's mother, Mariya, is a Darry. However, Lancel, having discovered a devout piety to the Faith, shows interest in neither his wife nor his lands.[6]

When Ser Jaime Lannister's knights visit Castle Darry, Amerei hosts a feast in their honor. She sobs that outlaws murdered her father, Merrett Frey. Ser Harwyn Plumm, the commander of Darry's new garrison, has promised to bring Amerei the head of the leader of the outlaws, Lord Beric Dondarrion. She also charms Ser Lyle Crakehall into agreeing to hunt the outlaws near her lands after the resolution of the siege of Riverrun. When Jaime warns Lancel that Ami is interested in Harwyn, Lancel explains he intends to renounce his lordship over Darry and his unconsummated marriage with Amerei.[6]

During the siege of Riverrun, Ser Daven Lannister conjectures that Ami slept with Black Walder Frey.[5] Genna Lannister thinks Lancel's brother, Martyn Lannister, could marry Ami.[8]

Quotes by Amerei

Lyle: You have my word, once Riverrun has fallen I shall return to hunt down the Hound and kill him for you. Dogs do not frighten me.
Amerei: You are a true knight, Ser Lyle, to help a lady in distress.[6]

Quotes about Amerei

Cersei: And you are to be wed as well.
Lancel: A Frey girl, and not of my choosing. She is not even maiden. A widow, of Darry blood. My father says that will help me with the peasants, but the peasants are all dead.[9]

Jaime: A lion shouldn't have horns. You took the girl to wife.
Lancel: I said some words and gave her a red cloak, but only to please Father. Marriage requires consummation.[6]

Jaime: I saw Lancel's bride at Darry.

Daven: Gatehouse Ami, gods be good. I couldn't believe that Lancel picked that one. What's wrong with that boy?
Jaime: He's grown pious, but it wasn't him who did the picking. Lady Amerei's mother is a Darry. Our uncle thought she'd help Lancel win the Darry smallfolk.

Daven: How, by fucking them? You know why they call her Gatehouse Ami? She raises her portcullis for every knight who happens by. Lancel had best find an armorer to make him a horned helm.[5]
