Appearance and Character
Ser Donnel was red of hair and red of beard, and shorter than his sworn brother Ser Roland Crakehall. Originally from the port town of Duskendale in the crownlands, Donnel was not a nobleman of the ruling House Darklyn, though he may have been inspired by their coat of arms for his own personal heraldry.
The following year, Ser Donnel, along with his two fellow brothers of the Kingsguard, Ser Roland Crakehall and Ser Willem Wylde, escorted the Targaryen princes to the tourney at Ashford Meadow. As the princes participated in the tourney, the Kingsguard knights did not join in the lists, as it would not be fitting to have them ride against those they are sworn to protect. After the princes Daeron and Aegon Targaryen disappeared, Ser Donnel accompanied Prince Maekar Targaryen in searching for them. The three of them fought on the side of Prince Aerion Targaryen during the trial of seven. In the first charge, he slew Ser Humfrey Beesbury during the trial.
