House Fossoway of New Barrel is a noble house from New Barrel in the Reach, sworn to House Tyrell of Highgarden.
They are commonly referred as the green-apple Fossoways to differentiate them from the original branch of the house, the red-apple Fossoways from Cider Hall.[2]
Their banner is a green apple over a golden field.[1][3] Their motto does not appear in the books.

History
The origin of this branch of House Fossoway is from 209 AC, when Raymun Fossoway participated in the tourney at Ashford Meadow. Raymun took a different side than his cousin, Ser Steffon, the heir to Cider Hall, in a trial of seven at Ashford.[1]
Raymun, who was knighted minutes before the battle by Lyonel Baratheon, Lord of Storm's End, fought for his friend. Ser Duncan the Tall. To differentiate himself from his cousin fighting for the other side, Raymun painted the apple on his shield in green, playing at Steffon's oft-repeated jape that he was "still green". Raymun stated that he preferred to be green than rotten.[1]

A Clash of Kings
Ser Arnell, a knight of the Night's Watch, is the son of an unnamed green-apple Fossoway.[4]
The banners of the green-apple Fossoways are spotted beneath the walls of Bitterbridge by Catelyn Stark.[5] During the feast with Renly Baratheon's army at Bitterbridge, Catelyn is placed between Lord Mathis Rowan and Ser Jon Fossoway, whom she considers genial.[5]
Both branches of House Fossoway turn to Stannis Baratheon after Renly's death. Ser Cortnay Penrose acknowledges Ser Jon of the green-apple Fossoways and Ser Bryan Fossoway of the red during his parley with Stannis. During Stannis's siege of Storm's End, Cortnay's lieutenant is Lord Elwood Meadows, a green boy of twenty years and cousin to the Fossoways. Elwood immediately surrenders the castle after Cortnay's death.[6]
The banner of the green-apple Fossoways is spotted in Stannis's van as it approaches King's Landing.[7] During the Battle of the Blackwater, Lothor Brune cuts his way through half a hundred Fossoway men-at-arms to capture Ser Jon from the green apple and slay Ser Bryan and Ser Edwyd of the red, earning the name Lothor Apple-Eater. Jon is one of the highborn prisoners who bend the knee to King Joffrey I Baratheon after the Blackwater.[8]
A Storm of Swords
Tyrion Lannister observes a Fossoway and his pregnant wife at Joffrey's royal wedding. The man often kisses her and caresses her stomach.[9]
A Feast for Crows
Lady Janna Fossoway, the wife of Ser Jon Fossoway, is one of the companions of Queen Margaery Tyrell at her court in King's Landing, and often goes hawking with her and Meredyth Crane.[10]
Brienne of Tarth spots the green-apple badge of House Fossoway among those that have been collected from the dead after the battle at Duskendale.[11]

The known Fossoways from the green-apple branch during the timespan of the events described in A Song of Ice and Fire are:
- Ser Jon Fossoway, a genial man.[12]
- Lady Janna Fossoway, his wife. Lord Mace Tyrell's sister.[12]
With unspecified familiar relationship to the main branch of the house there is:
- Lady Jeyne Fossoway, the wife of Ser Gunthor Hightower.[12]
- Leonette Fossoway, married to Ser Garlan Tyrell, who could be either from the red or the green-apple branches of the house.[12]
- Unnamed Fossoway from either from the green or the red-apple branches of the house present at the wedding of King Joffrey Baratheon and Margaery Tyrell.[9]
