House Spicer of Castamere is a minor noble house of the westerlands. They blazon their arms with three black pepperpots on a saffron bend, across a field of green and silver stripes.[1][2]

History
House Spicer is a newer house founded by a petty lord, a wealthy merchant elevated by Lord Tytos Lannister.[3] The founder's father was a trader of saffron and pepper[4] who wed a maegi from Essos.[3] This witch woman, known as Maggy the Frog to the populace of Lannisport, is alleged to have used spells[3] and love potions.[4]
House Spicer's wealth led the founder's daughter, Sybell Spicer,[5] to marry Gawen Westerling, lord of ancient but impoverished House Westerling.[4] This has made the younger generation of Westerlings poor marriage matches due to being descended of upjumped merchants.[5]

A Storm of Swords
After Ser Jaime Lannister escapes from Riverrun, Ser Samwell Spicer is among the men sent by Lord Tywin Lannister to discreetly search for the Kingslayer.[6]
Ser Rolph Spicer serves as castellan of the Crag, where his sister, Sybell Spicer, is lady of the castle. With Sybell's husband, Lord Gawen Westerling, a captive at Seagard,[7] Rolph yields the castle to Robb Stark, King in the North, during the storming of the Crag. Sybell discretely negotiates with House Spicer's liege lord, Tywin, in return for promises of worthy marriages for her daughters, Jeyne and Eleyna.[5] Rolph and Sybell maneuver Jeyne into treating the wounded Robb.[8] After sleeping with the girl, Robb chooses to wed her, thereby breaking his alliance with House Frey.[1] Sybell begins providing posset to Jeyne, claiming it will make her fertile.[9]
Rolph accompanies Sybell and her children when they travel with Robb to Riverrun. Catelyn Stark is distrustful of Rolph because Grey Wind behaves aggressively towards him.[1] Robb sends Rolph to deliver the hostage Martyn Lannister at the Golden Tooth.[10]
Robb is betrayed and killed by Houses Frey and Bolton at the Red Wedding.[11] Ser Kevan Lannister has King Tommen I Baratheon sign a decree raising Rolph to lordship and giving him the lands and title of Lord of Castamere.[12]
A Feast for Crows
After the siege of Riverrun, Sybell is upset when Jaime informs her that Tywin intended for her son, Ser Raynald Westerling, to marry a bastard, Joy Hill. Sybell reveals that per her arrangement with Tywin, she took measures to prevent Jeyne from becoming pregnant with Robb's child.[5]
