Lorence Roxton was skilled at arms, and renowned for his chivalry and valor.
In 49 AC, the young King Jaehaerys I Targaryen sought to fill five slots within his Kingsguard. At the wedding of his mother Queen Alyssa Velaryon and Lord Rogar Baratheon, Jaehaerys declared that the knights would fight on foot over a position in his Kingsguard. In the subsequent War for the White Cloaks in which hundreds of knights competed for the honor of serving in the Kingsguard, Ser Lorence Roxton was one of the five champions given the white cloak of the Kingsguard, being the only victor from a lordly house.
Lorence and Ser Joffrey Doggett protected King Jaehaerys I Targaryen when the king met with Lord Rogar Baratheon, after the Lord of Storm's End attempted to place Princess Rhaella on the throne. During the tourney celebrating the king's tenth anniversary of his coronation in 58 AC, Lorence was unhorsed by young Ser Ryam Redwyne.
