A Dance with Dragons
Ser Patrek loses his lands in southern Westeros when King Stannis Baratheon sails for the Wall. When Stannis marches for the battle beneath the Wall, Ser Patrek remains at Eastwatch-by-the-Sea with Queen Selyse Florent. Patrek accompanies her to Castle Black, is prepared to fight Wun Weg Wun Dar Wun, and escorts Selyse to the King's Tower. He commands the queen's men protecting Selyse at the castle.
When Selyse decides that Patrek should marry Val, Jon Snow, Lord Commander of the Night's Watch, explains that free folk must be stolen, showing the man's strength. Patrek is later slain at Hardin's Tower, where Val is staying, killed by Wun Wun. After tearing off the knight's sword arm, the giant smashes Patrek's body against the tower, ruining the knight's head. Jon attempts to calm Wun Wun, but the Lord Commander is then stabbed in the mutiny at Castle Black.

Quotes about Patrek
—thoughts of Jon Snow
Axell: Ser Patrek feels he would have made a better match for Lady Alys. His lands were lost to him when he came north.
Jon: There are many in this hall who have lost far more than that, and more who have given up their lives in service to the realm. Ser Patrek should count himself fortunate.
So I invented a character called Ser Patrek of King's Mountain and described his heraldry as looking somewhat like the heraldry of the Dallas Cowboys with the silver star on a white field. And then I had him ripped apart by a giant.
Behind the Scenes
Patrek is named after Patrick St. Denis, a friend of George R. R. Martin and a resident of Montreal (which can be translated from French as Mount Royal or King's Mountain). St. Denis is a fan of the Dallas Cowboys American football team (whose logo is a blue star), while Martin supports the rival New York Giants.
