Sabitha Frey, née Vypren, was a noblewoman of House Vypren and the wife of Lord Forrest Frey, the head of House Frey and the Lord of the Crossing during the reigns of kings Viserys I and Aegon II Targaryen.[1]

Character

Sabitha was considered merciless and grasping.[4] She is said to have preferred women over men,[1] and is rumored to have been fond of Lady Alysanne Blackwood.[3]

History

Dance of the Dragons

During the Dance of the Dragons, Lady Sabitha greeted Lord Roderick Dustin and the Winter Wolves outside of the Twins during their march south. Sabitha's husband, Lord Forrest Frey, was slain in the Battle by the Lakeshore.[5] Lady Sabitha seized Harrenhal three days after it had been abandoned by Ser Criston Cole and Prince Aemond Targaryen. When Aemond unexpectedly returned, Sabitha hid in a privy to escape Vhagar's dragonflame. She then returned to the Twins.[5]

Sabitha and her kin from House Vypren joined Ser Addam Velaryon for the Second Battle of Tumbleton,[6] and she participated in the Battle of the Kingsroad.[4] Sabitha and Alysanne Blackwood shared tents during the campaign.[3] The women joined the Lads in marching on King's Landing, where they were welcomed by the populace of the capital.[3]

Reign of Aegon III

When a council of regents was selected to help rule during the minority of King Aegon III Targaryen, Sabitha was one of the notable omissions from the council, though Septon Eustace writes that Sabitha was not slighted by this exclusion. Instead she returned home to the Twins, to try to reestablish some semblance of order in the northern riverlands. Afterwards she held Widow Fairs at the Twins, matching landless Stark soldiers who stayed in the south with widows who lost their husbands in the war.[7]

In 134 AC, Lady Sabitha contributed six hundred Freys to the host of Ser Robert Rowan when he marched on the Vale of Arryn to intervene in the Arryn succession conflict.[2]

In 136 AC, Lord Torrhen Manderly and Aegon's regents made plan for a great royal progress around the Seven Kingdoms to celebrate Aegon III's coming of age. They planned for the king to stop at the Twins where Lady Sabitha would host him. Aegon cancelled the progress, however.[2]

Quotes

... sharp-featured, sharp-tongued harridan of House Vypren, who would sooner ride than dance, wore mail instead of silk, and was fond of killing men and kissing women.[1]

Family

Sabitha was born a Vypren and had brothers.[6] She married Forrest Frey, a younger son of House Frey who became Lord of the Crossing. Together they had at least one son who succeeded Forrest after his death.[3]
