Appearance and Character
By 209 AC, Steffon was a quick and muscular young knight.[3][1] His shield bore the red apple of House Fossoway, and his yellow cloak was fastened with gold and garnets in the shape of an apple. He wore a padded doublet underneath his armor. Steffon's destrier was named Wrath.[3]
Steffon was proud, glory seeking,[3] and ambitious.[1]
History
Ser Steffon was one of the entrants in the tourney at Ashford Meadow. He considered challenging Ser Tybolt Lannister.[3]
Steffon promised to fight for Ser Duncan the Tall during the trial of seven, but he switched side when Prince Aerion Targaryen promised to make him a lord. This led Steffon's squire, his cousin Raymun Fossoway, to support Duncan. Raymun painted the apple on his shield green to mark the difference between the two Fossoways. During the trial, the evenly-matched cousins fought each other and both left the field standing.[3]
Quotes by Steffon
Raymun: If you think I wish any part of this, you're as thick as you are vile.
Steffon: Vile? Guard your tongue, Raymun. We're both apples from the same tree. And you are my squire. Or have you forgotten your vows?
Steffon: I shall be more than a knight before this day is done. Lord Fossoway. I like the sound of that.[3]
Raymun: No. Have you forgotten yours? You swore to be a knight.

Quotes about Steffon
—thoughts of Duncan the Tall
My cousin keeps a sharp watch on every tilt, though. Should any man be wounded on the morrow, or show signs of exhaustion or weakness, Steffon will be quick to knock on his shield, you may count on it. No one has ever accused him of an excess of chivalry.[3]
