Inclusion criteria

I don't know that we can say conclusively that Viserys III, Danaerys' brother, was mad. Aerion, Aerys II and probasbly Rhaegel, sure - but Viserys looks more frustrated and foolish than really mad. LuisDantas 05:37, 28 May 2012 (UTC)

I am not too sure whether he was mad already or going mad or just paranoid etc. I included him based on aCoK reference where Dany is thinking about him in Qarth and she says to herself: “in the end it had driven him mad”.

Tyrion judges that by all accounts he was ‘half-mad’ when he’s talking to Young Griff about Dany. I could take him out of the list and give him a brief mention saying that Ser Barristan thought he was his father's son in ways Rhaegar wasnt or something like that, and leave it for the individual reader to decide.

Queen Helaena Targaryen

Can we really say that Helaena had the Targaryen madness? She had a breakdown after having to pick one child to die, and then having to watch with a living reminder of the choice she had made and the consequences it had. To me, that doesn't sound like the Targaryen Madness cases like, say, Aerion Brightflame. --Rhaenys_Targaryen 22:02, 28 February 2014 (UTC)

Re:Queen Helaena Targaryen

Hi I put her on the list as in the 'The Princess and the Queen' it says:

"and Queen Helaena sank deeper and deeper into madness" page 722

and also

"her men found her rival's wife, the mad Queen Helaena, locked in her bedchamber" - page 737 --Melanie 23:45, 28 February 2014 (UTC)

Hi. I understand why you did it, but I was just wondering if Helaena's madness could be counted as the same kind of madness as Aerion and Baelor had. In Helaena's case, the term mad seems to indicate more that she simply went crazy after watching her son die. --Rhaenys_Targaryen 22:56, 1 March 2014 (UTC)

I see where you are coming from, I think you make a good point, she may well have spiralled into a deep clinical depression Perhaps this is a good example of the effect that the famous stigma (or taint) of madness that runs in the Targaryen bloodline – if a Targ exhibits atypical behaviour they may branded as mad due to the reputation of the bloodline. --Melanie 02:00, 2 March 2014 (UTC)

Might it be an idea to remove Helaena from the list "Mad Targaryens" and place her underneath the list stating that while she went mad, she went mad because of a traumatising event and didn't have the Targaryen madness, even though she went mad? (or something like that). --Rhaenys_Targaryen 13:33, 2 March 2014 (UTC)

ok, I added a new list and put Viserys there too, what do you think? --Melanie 17:57, 2 March 2014 (UTC)

I changed the subtitle (referred to as mad still suggests the Targaryen Madness, since that's the title of the page), but a second list like this one should be just fine for this subject, I think. Viserys might even be "promoted" to the "Mad Targaryens" list, following Illyrio's statement that "Viserys was Mad Aerys' son".

But for Helaena, a place on this second list (Questionable Madness) is a lot better than a place in the list "Mad Targaryens"

So what do you think about Viserys? Questionable or mad?--Rhaenys_Targaryen 22:12, 2 March 2014 (UTC)

Hi, personally I think he was mad but there are some readers that think he was “on the way” to becoming mad but not quite there yet. ok I shall put Viserys back on the “mad” list as Dany considers him mad and has said so and she knew him best. --Melanie 02:36, 8 March 2014 (UTC)

Prince Aemond Targaryen

I've included Aemond in the list, because I got the idea from the Princess and the Queen that he was a little mad. Does everyone agree with this?--Rhaenys_Targaryen 20:55, 27 May 2014 (UTC)
