Toron Greyjoy was the Lord of the Iron Islands, Lord Reaper of Pyke, and the head of House Greyjoy during the reign of King Aegon III Targaryen.[1]

History

Toron was born a salt son of Lord Dalton Greyjoy, the Red Kraken.[1] Born in 127 AC, Dalton had just claimed his first four salt wives earlier that year.[3] Toron resided with his mother on Pyke.[1]

In 133 AC, Dalton was killed by one of his salt wives, Tess, at Faircastle. As he had not taken a rock wife, the Seastone Chair passed to Toron by law. A power struggle was inevitable, however, as Toron was not yet six and his salt wife mother could not hope to act as a regent as a rock wife could.[1][3]

Lord Toron was seized by his aunts and their husbands, and his mother was put to death. Meanwhile, his father's cousins and the lords of Harlaw and Blacktyde raised up his half-brother Rodrik, while another pretender rose up in the form of Sam Salt, supposedly descended from the black line. The bloody struggle had raged for half a year when Lady Johanna Lannister and Ser Leo Costayne's forces invaded the Iron Islands in 134 AC in retribution for the Red Kraken's invasion of the westerlands.[4]

Lord Toron's defenders beat off the Lannister assault on Pyke, and thus he remained upon the Seastone Chair. However, two of his had aunts died in the conflict, and his brother Rodrik was taken and brought back to Casterly Rock, where he was gelded and made a fool.[4]

Family

Toron Greyjoy was the salt son of Lord Dalton Greyjoy, by one of his first salt wives claimed in 127 AC. Toron had a younger half-brother Rodrik, born by another of Dalton's salt wives. Toron had three paternal aunts, an uncle Veron, and several grasping and ambitious cousins of Dalton's.[4]
