Synopsis

Jon has the provisions counted, and finds them not enough to feed the Night's Watch, the wildlings, and Stannis' men through the winter. He then meets with Stannis who tells him of his plans to leave The Wall and to take the Dreadfort unawares. Jon then quickly shouts out that if he does he will fail, causing a commotion among Stannis' loyal men.

He then reluctantly treats with Stannis, reminding himself that he is a sworn Black Brother and cannot pick sides in the wars to the south. Stannis again proposes to Jon to leave the Black and take on the role of House Stark in Winterfell, to which Jon reminds him that Sansa currently the rightful heir, and that he cannot forsake his vows. He is also told that Rattleshirt is now to join to the him on the wall and that he is under Melisandre's guidance and will not be a problem. To this, Jon reluctantly agrees.

However, he then agrees to treat with Stannis if he will give him the Wildlings he will show Stannis where to get the men and the location to attack in order to have Stannis have his show of strength that he desires. Jon wants the Wildlings in order to occupy more of the forts along The Wall and says that Stannis will only use the 300 men as arrow fodder whereas Jon says to himself that he would use the spearwives as well as their families, a number totaling near 1,000. He then treats and councils Stannis to win the mountain clans such as House Flint, House Wull, House Norrey, and House Liddle. Jon then proposes that Stannis march for Deepwood Motte and fight the Ironmen, thus winning the hearts of the other Northmen in his quest to reclaim the North from House Bolton.
