I have drawn many Westerosi house sigil's. e.g. http://awoiaf.westeros.org/index.php/File:32x32_Estermont.png. I have done 50% of the 350 known designs and would like them to be used on this wiki. On the family trees perhaps... Anyway I don't fancy clicking through the upload interface hundreds of times so my question is: Is there a shortcut? My inspiration was: http://algesiras.deviantart.com/art/Westeros-Houses-icons-213971788?q=boost%3Apopular%20in%3Adigitalart%2Fpixelart%20westeros&qo=0 (I have avoided doing these myself due to these ones superior quality.

There is away to bulk upload but it is simpler to upload them one by one. I know that I am setting myself for a world of pain, but if you want you can send me a link to the zip(using MediaFire for example) and I can help you out with the upload(I am can do this kind of things pretty fast) --[[User:Mordin999|Mor]] 15:59, 3 May 2012 (UTC)

Link sent in a moment. Thanks for the offer of help. I've done more than are in the zip so if you get a burning desire to make more mouse clicks just ask. [[User:Xert|Xert]] 19:13, 4 May 2012 (UTC)

The number of articles are growing and I think we are ready to give other things some thought. For exemple the Main Page; what should it contain? Below some things I can think of (I borrowed heavily from other wikis). Feel free to comment or to add [[User:Scafloc|Scafloc]] 11:21, 3 May 2007 (CDT)

On wikipedia, the members of each house are listed on the house page; here we seem to be splitting the more prominent characters off onto their own pages, i.e. Tyrion Lannister - what is our preferred practice? Subheadings under the House page, or individual character pages, ala the Encyclopedia WOT?

'''Content''':
 +
* A bit more information about the Wiki and Ice and Fire
 +
* Feature Article
 +
* Feature picture (when we have some?)
 +
* Quote of the day / week
 +
* Standard navigation: books, Great Houses. Not to many items I think
 +
* Main Categories
 +
* Link to newest page(s) on the wiki
 +
* Link to other ASOIAF pages or link to page that collects those?
 +
* Collaboration of the Month
 +
* Maybe some information about do's and don'ts, but I think that those should come on the [[A Wiki of Ice and Fire:Community Portal|Community Portal]]
 +
* Bits of news about things having to do with ASOIAF; information about publishing role-playing game based on A Song of Ice and Fire, GRRM's next appearance
 +
*Statistics (number of visiters?)
 +
*"Did you know..." section
 +
* "Take the tour" visitor gets an overview in a couple of steps about the wiki

:I believe we should go with individual house pages. It makes sense to provide characters extra room, so to speak, in the AWoIaF than they would be allowed in the Wikipedia. The [http://lotr.wikia.com LotR Wikia] is, I think, a good model for how we should approach things. --[[User:Ran|Ran]] 02:47, 24 April 2007 (CDT)

'''Graphics:'''

+
* Background; what colour?
We should establish a consensus policy (or an editorial one) before we go very much further.
+
* Logo? A direwollf sitting on a dragon??? Or dragon and direwolf on coat of arms?
 +
::: how about something like [http://i54.tinypic.com/33lo9xh.jpg this] to be placed under the logo and the right menu bars?

:I'm certainly all-ears on this. I've had very limited wiki experience. Wikipedia has, obviously, a fairly thorough and complex organizational structure to handle these things, but it's probably overkill to begin with. Anyone know of any good, smallish fancruft wikis that we might look at for ideas? --[[User:Ran|Ran]] 02:47, 24 April 2007 (CDT)

On a related note, I think it would be simpler and more useful to list entries regarding a house's stronghold and/or seat on the house's page, rather than separately, i.e. Sunspear should be a sub-heading under House Martell, rather than its own page - any ideas? I think that the strongholds page on wikipedia is a disaster. --[[User:Daena the defiant|Daena the defiant]] 19:36, 23 April 2007 (CDT)

::: Linda and I are working on a specific skin and logo for the wiki. As this weekend features my birthday, we're not doing too much with it now, but we'll dig into it more after that. Not sure when we'll get it all together, as we also have RL work and so on. :)

:Similar to the above, I think we should have separate pages for house seats, and we can do things like making use of categories, internal links, and possibly even transclusion (when appropriate) to group articles together. --[[User:Ran|Ran]] 02:47, 24 April 2007 (CDT)
+
::: As to the rest, it sounds like a good start. We should see about finding templates that help fill in some of the main page content area. Like I've indicated previously, something like LotR wikia is a good model. --[[User:Ran|Ran]] 07:07, 5 May 2007 (CDT)

::The policy in the wikipedia is that each subject with enough rellevant information should have its own article. The thing is that the standards of what is rellevant vary a lot between the Wikipedia and us. Of course Sunspear is rellevant (Oldcastle is!), so the question is: are we capable of writing three or four paragraphs on it? Of course we are.

::IMO, we should start moving the charachters from the their house pages to their own pages, leaving only a brief description of their members in the house article.--[[User:The_hairy_bear|The hairy bear]] ([[User talk:The hairy bear|Send me a raven]]) 02:56, 24 April 2007 (CDT)
+
: 2007? Right now that post I recently made on the forum, about css and backgrounds, sounds particularly funny to me ;)

::Aggree but let's not make it an "offical" policy to '''start''' with a page for each character. When someone feels that a heading has enough material to justify an article in stead of a heading, feel free to create a new page and remove the info. A short description should remain on the original article I think. [[User:Scafloc|Scafloc]] 09:34, 24 April 2007 (CDT)
+
: Anyway, I would like to add few suggestion to what Scafloc work. I think that we need a portals, gateways or whatever it's called, we have a lot of good and interesting content and such portals would be a starting point to introduce the users to the world of aSoIaF, provide them with key articles and categories, a place where they can always return and further explore their interests.<br/>For example see [[w:Main Page|wikipidea]] click on the categories in the top right corner or the [[fr:Accueil|french]] approach.

:::This sounds like a good approach to me. I could easily see people running around creating pages with no content to help, and then never helping to actually fill in those pages with content. Too many empty articles = bad. Minor members of houses who basically only appear in the appendices or are mentioned only once can probably do without their own page. --[[User:Ran|Ran]] 10:26, 24 April 2007 (CDT)
+
: Furthermore, I feel that we need to tweak our main categories on the main page, for example
 +
:* Combine characters and POV characters into one
 +
:* Combine Books and chapter summaries into one
 +
:* Give the TV HBO a separate page, something that new fans may like to explore as ran suggested on the forum.
 +
:* And put the rest into ''world of ice and fire'' until it grow enough to be expanded other fields.

: Regarding Graphics, it's would be nice if we could find some small illustrations or icons for the different categories, for example: [http://i53.tinypic.com/23jikol.jpg] [http://i55.tinypic.com/209h8v8.jpg] [http://i56.tinypic.com/2ywihr7.jpg] [http://i55.tinypic.com/27zz28z.jpg] [http://i52.tinypic.com/2zr23it.jpg]

Does anyone know why linking images from commons ([[Image:53_daenarys.jpg]]) does not work? Is this feature disabled?
+
==CSS Requests and Problems==
:I think you need to use <nowiki>[[commons:Image:53_daenarys.jpg]]</nowiki> for it to work properly. It seems to work for me, as here: [[commons:Image:53_daenarys.jpg]]. If you mean you can't embed images, I don't think interwiki linking supports embedding images, but I could be wrong (I've tried it various ways and the only way to do so is to point directly to the image, which I don't believe would be proper wiki etiquette). We could transwiki from there if we wanted to embed GNU FDL imagery from there, I suppose. --[[User:Ran|Ran]] 07:00, 25 April 2007

* We have a problem with 'Headings'(e.g. <nowiki> == h1,h2.. ==</nowiki> ), when placed on page with infobox(which is almost every page on the wiki), the section [edit] links floats from its place bellow the infobox.([[Robert_Baratheon|for example]]). I checked the template and it's fine, I believe that the problem is with CSS setting of 'editsection' it should be defined as {float:right;'''margin-left:5px'''}. cheers, --[[User:Mordin999|Mor]] 14:23, 23 October 2011 (UTC)
::In the Wiki projects I've worked, you could . For example, [http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Targaryen#Genealogy this] Targaryen gentree on the english wiki is directly taken from commons, while in our wiki it's not working ([[Targaryen#Genealogy]]). Anyway, we can always upload the images from commons on our wiki so it's not a big problem. --[[User:The_hairy_bear|The hairy bear]] ([[User talk:The hairy bear|Send me a raven]]) 08:36, 25 April 2007 (CDT)

:* Ok I think I got it, adding <code>overflow: hidden;</code> to the <code>h1, h2, h3, h4, h5, h6</code> should fix it. --[[User:Mordin999|Mor]] 20:25, 22 November 2011 (UTC)

* In my opinon <nowiki><code></code> and <pre></pre></nowiki> tag's create such a small text, that sometime I want to gauge my eyes out. from what I observed adding the following css code: <code>pre, code, tt, kbd, samp {font-family: monospace,"Courier New";</code> would solve the problem, I hope it would be considered. cheers, --[[User:Mordin999|Mor]] 14:40, 23 October 2011 (UTC)

==Color Scheme==

==References==
It looks like either some sort of new color scheme was just introduced or I hit a wrong buttom somewhere. Many of the text boxes are now grey instead of white. Is there any way I can set my display back to the normal wikipedia look? The grey is too murky on my eyes and it looks strange contrasting with the other areas of white. -[[User:Oorag|Oorag]] 15:10, 25 April 2007 (CDT)

We have recently updated our 'Cite' extensions(it handles the references), fixing a standing issue we had with it and adding a very nice little feature for preview(hold your mouse over a ref). However, there is a "drawback", the new version is less tolerant toward us forgetting to place footnote references tag, thus you may notice this line <span style="color:RED;"><nowiki>Cite error: <ref> tags exist, but no <references/> tag was found</nowiki></span> at the bottom of some pages.
:It's testing to see how skinning works. For the time being we've put it back to the standard. In the future, you'll be able to use MySkin and a custom CSS file to change some of the details to your liking. We are thinking of a grey-and-red scheme for the wiki, but haven't made any final decisions. --[[User:Ran|Ran]] 15:22, 25 April 2007 (CDT)

Ok, I've recently reverted some edits copied from Wikipedia because they weren't done properly.  Please folks, if you're going to copy from Wikipedia, even though it is permitted, there are some rules to follow.  See [http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:Copyrights Wikipedia's copyrights page].  I'd also recommend against such blanket copies, since they leave the residue of Wikipedia behind, which leads to some rather ugly pages with all sorts of red links and bad templates.  I'd suggest holding off on any copies till we know how to import things anyway, that would give us both the content and a history. [[User:Mistermanticore|Mistermanticore]]
+
== Recurring problems ==
:You're right on needing to learn the transwiking process. Unfortunately, it seems import is restricted to sysops on the originating site -- it dumps a file on their computers which they can then upload to the new site to move things wholesale. So we'll have to do without that. The Transwiki process is [http://meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/Help:Transwiki here]. If you scroll down, there's a good example that helps illustrate the (rather complex) step by step instructions, which should make it easier. --[[User:Ran|Ran]] 17:54, 25 April 2007 (CDT)

::To add a little more, it looks like the only legal requirement in the transwiking process would be appropriate attribution of the work. This is done by putting a notice in the article that it derives from a Wikipedia article by linking to that article.

::Finally, what might be useful is for someone to go through Wikipedia and make a list of articles to be transwikied, if they don't have time to transwiki anything themselves but would like to contribute (I suggest putting that in the talk for the Main Page, or create a "Project:Articles to copy" page. With that, people can move articles to the transwiki namespace to clean them up and make sure all links work properly. Then we can note which ones are ready to be moved from the namespace to full-fledged articles, and I (and anyone else we end up setting up with move ability) can get them in place. --[[User:Ran|Ran]] 18:19, 25 April 2007 (CDT)

I am working on way to make various tedious repetitive tasks quicker and easier, either by semi-automaticlly process running in the background or providing anyone who wish with an auto tool that would allow you to does it yourself on per entry basis.

:::We've got a bigger problem than I though. I just opened [[House Stark]].  It too was copied, unattributed, from Wikipedia.  Same with [[House Targaryen]] and [[House Lannister]] who knows what others?  I'm sure a lot of the contributors here are the same as the ones there, but not all, and it doesn't absolve us from following Wikipedia's rules on reusing their content.  I hate to do this, but I'm going to go through several pages and blank all of those which it seems to me are copies from Wikipedia.  I don't know if they'll need to be deleted outright, but if this continues, it will be a problem. [[User:Mistermanticore|Mistermanticore]] 23:07, 25 April 2007 (CDT)
+
I would appreciate input on any '''recurring''' problems you have encountered. Anything from un-needed spaces, small-case/upper-case, some grammar error or anything that makes the article less readable to you. Also you can suggest change for article structure or changing categories names(I know I seen many of those with stupid name and just went with it because it was to much of hassle to change it) or anything else you can think of, just post it here and let me worry if this can be done.
::::Well, I went through several pages.  I found numerous other copyright violations.  I can't find one attribution.  I expect there are a lot more like that, and thanks to the moving around going on, it may be a lot more.  At this point, I'm very close to suggesting we just delete all the articles and start fresh.  Copying from Wikipedia isn't a simple matter of doing a Ctrl-A, Ctrl-V.  There are rules.  They are not being followed. I hate to sound like I'm being an ass here, but I'd hate for Ran to get into legal trouble just because some overeager fans thought it'd be ok.  This is an especially big problem since Ran is working on an official worldbook for the series. [[User:Mistermanticore|Mistermanticore]] 23:22, 25 April 2007 (CDT)

Maybe I'm reading the link you provided wrong, but this section: "Wikipedia content can be copied, modified, and redistributed so long as the new version grants the same freedoms to others and acknowledges the authors of the Wikipedia article used (a direct link back to the article satisfies our author credit requirement)" seems to say that as long as we include a link to the original wikipedia article in our AWOIAF article, we'll be fine. If that's true, instead of blanking the page when you find copying going on, just add a link in a "references" section. However, I do agree that people need to fix the wikilinks before they save an article. I've gone through a bunch of articles fixing them, but it's tedious work. -[[User:Oorag|Oorag]] 00:17, 26 April 2007 (CDT)
+
So far, other than some generic fixes rules used on wikipidea and spelling corrections, I have added the following rules:

::It's slightly more complicated than that.  Specifically, you need to look at [http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:Copyrights#Reusers.27_rights_and_obligations the rights and obligations] section, and besides, given that so many pages were copied without even an edit summary indicating the source, well, I consider it a problem. I think people just didn't realize that it wouldn't be a good idea to copy blindly.  [[User:Mistermanticore|Mistermanticore]] 00:34, 26 April 2007 (CDT)

Templates, replacement and alignment. Purpose replace old templates, removing old fields that doesnt work and add new ones, plus allign the text to make the info more readable to us the editors. Include:
:::Maybe I'm an idiot, but I'm getting lost in these documents. Could someone with a firm grasp of exactly what needs to be done to propely cite wikipedia write out some directions on what to do? First of all, how exactly does one paste the wikipedia article history into the AWOIAF talk pages? Does that mean just highlighting the text of the wikipedia history page and copying the text into the AWOIAF talk page? That doesn't make much sense to me is why I ask. Anyway, I'm one of the people who was pasting in material from wikipedia (though I didn't leave bad links), so I'd like to fix the articles I created if possible, but these legal/tech documents are a black hole of confusion to me. Maybe someone could do one article properly and we can use that as the model to follow. -[[User:Oorag|Oorag]] 01:03, 26 April 2007 (CDT)
+
* Replace and adjust, Character -> Infobox character.
::::In fact, I think Oorag is right. I don't  believe we _have_ to put in the edit history of the templates we're using, for example, o fulfill the GNU FDL. All we need to do is provide a link to the original in our articles. This can be easily done.
+
* Replace and adjust, Monarch -> Infobox monarch.
:::::Reading the Discussion for the Transwiki article, it seems primarily concerned with the appropriate way to move _Wikipedia_ articles between wikis. It may also be considered "good wiki" to do so, on the basis that it simplifies understanding prior contributions. But as Oorag noted (and as someone notes in [[m:Transwiki_talk]], the GNU FDL does not have a requirement for maintaining full attribution of contributors. This should be the defining document for our own set of rules, rather than trying to make use of all of Wikipedia's procedural methods. --[[User:Ran|Ran]] 02:19, 26 April 2007 (CDT)
+
* Adjust, Noble House.
 +
* Adjust, LocationMap.

:::::What I'm going to do is to contact all users, or maybe figure out how to put up a site admin message, and put a freeze on new article creation until all present articles are verified to link back to their source document and that all users are aware of the requirement of linking back. --[[User:Ran|Ran]] 02:19, 26 April 2007 (CDT)
+
Various adjustments:
 +
* Replace the chapter summaries references with <nowiki>{{Ref|xx}}</nowiki>, to make the text more readable for the editors and reduce the ref spam at the footnotes. (still not catching all the ADWD refs)
 +
* Adjust Template: <nowiki>{{EnWP|XXXXX}} -> {{EnWP|XXXXX|small=yes}}</nowiki> - to make it fit better with layout.
 +
* Replace link: <nowiki>[[XXX AL]] -> {{Date|XXX}} </nowiki>

'''Let's not panick and overreact'''. There are a lot of wiki's and more then one must have experience this problem. [[User:Ran|Ran]] already pointed out that we may be alble to learn from [http://lotr.wikia.com/wiki/Main_Page the Lord of the Ring wiki].
+
Bellow:
I read the article [[User:Mistermanticore|Mistermanticore]] metionned about the copyright of wikipedia. It seems we have to do the following (when copying):
+
* Cosmetics - Add heading for Categories and Langue InterWiki.
* mention we copied from wikipedia
+
* Remove duplicate Langue InterWiki links added by mistake.
* release our articles including changes under GFDL
+
* other minor changes, like splitting.
* link to the original article

* provide acces to the transparent copy

I saw how the "Lord of the Rings" wiki handled this problem, they use a [http://lotr.wikia.com/wiki/Template_talk:EnWP template] which does the things mentionned above.

So what we should do is see how to import that template (with thinking about the copyright of the template!!!) and use the template.

Again, let's not panick. If this is the hardest problem we will experience, we'll be doing great.-- [[User:Scafloc|Scafloc]] 03:14, 26 April 2007 (CDT)

== Templates ==
+
Image pages(their upload page, not the images that show on the articles):
 +
* adding missing Section to improve readability.
 +
* testing a little trick to get alot of work of our back.

I've learned a bit more about MediaWiki, including the fact that Wikipedia is not automatically enabled as an interwiki source. I'll have to fiddle with the database to fix that. When that happens, I believe the templates we've transwikied from there are going to be removed in favor of using something called "scary transclusion". What this means is that we'll be able to transclude the templates directly across to placeholder templates of our own without having to transwiki them. One benefit of this will be greater compatability with Wikipedia.

So, until I get that sorted out, please avoid introducing new templates from Wikipedia. If you find that you'll be needing templates to get pages to look right, note them here. --[[User:Ran|Ran]] 18:29, 25 April 2007 (CDT)

== Inconsistent navigation template placement ==

This a generic message related to the appropriate means of copying material from Wikipedia:
+
I was adding nav templates to a load of region articles the other day. and eventually noticed there's a very inconsistent placement of these templates, most place articles have the references at the bottom, after the nav bar templates, like [[The North]]. but a quite a few other pages have the templates right at the bottom, like [[House Westerling]] or [[House Clegane]]. personally i think it's better the second way as it looks neater and is in line with Wikipedia.

Before adding new articles today, please review all articles you have contributed to (and any other articles you care to check, but your own articles first and foremost) and verify that they are either: a) wholly original or b) copied from [[w:Main Page|Wikipedia]]. If (b) applies, please verify that [[w:Copyrights#Reusers.27_rights_and_obligations]] is fulfilled by making sure that somewhere at the end of the document is a notice of this kind:
+
People might think this is very minor. but to me it's an inconsistency, so should be fixed.

Interwiki linking should now be functional. This means that you can easily and simply link to Wikipedia with w:, wikipedia:, and en:. For example, <nowiki>[[w:A Song of Ice and Fire]]</nowiki> will link to Wikipedia's version of the ASoIaF page. This should make a number of things easier, in particular making sure the GNU FDL is fulfilled.

Hey folks, I've added the [[m:EasyTimeline|EasyTimeline]] extension to the wiki. ==How to note years==
+
Is there an Manual of Style in this wiki, if not one has to be created. I propose using [http://starwars.wikia.com/wiki/Wookieepedia:Manual_of_Style Star Wars Wiki Manual of Style] as base and also adopt there "In-universe Perspective" article writing. [[User:Srini|Srini]] 06:29, 20 October 2014 (UTC)
Well, the new topic to discuss/decide is how to note years. I started an [[Aegon's Landing]] page so that people could write years like "298 [[Aegon's Landing|AL]]" and link to that article for anyone who doesn't know what AL means. I prefer that way personally, rather than saying "300 years ago", since when "now" would be is nebulous. -[[User:Oorag|Oorag]] 19:10, 2 May 2007 (CDT)
+
:There is on: [[Help:Manual of Style]]. Regards,[[User:Scafloc|Scafloc]] 11:06, 20 October 2014 (UTC)
:I aggree. Most events can be easily related to years before or after AL (for exemples the reign of the kings). A bit more difficult are events that happened a very long time ago. For exemple the [[Age of Dawn]] or the [[Long Night]]. Do we say that it happened 8700 years before AL? Somehow that doesn't seem natural [[User:Scafloc|Scafloc]] 06:23, 3 May 2007 (CDT)

::I think for ancient events, one could stick to "~8000 years ago", with "years ago" being dated from "start of the series". But for events where there's an absolutely firm dating, we should consider using AL as the measure. --[[User:Ran|Ran]] 09:41, 3 May 2007 (CDT)

* Link to newest page(s) on the wiki

* Link to other ASOIAF pages or link to page that collects those?

* Collaboration of the Month

* Maybe some information about do's and don'ts, but I think that those should come on the [[A Wiki of Ice and Fire:Community Portal|Community Portal]]

* Bits of news about things having to do with ASOIAF; information about publishing role-playing game based on A Song of Ice and Fire, GRRM's next appearance

*Statistics (number of visiters?)

*"Did you know..." section

* "Take the tour" visitor gets an overview in a couple of steps about the wiki

1. Instead of having a singular family tree, I suggest having a multiple trees, with the family tree as it stands at the beginning of AGoT fully displayed, and additional family trees (behind spoiler tabs) as they stand at the end of each book. An example of a tree that would change would be the Baratheon family tree (mainly around Margaery's three positions on the tree).
* Background; what colour?

* Logo? A direwollf sitting on a dragon??? Or dragon and direwolf on coat of arms?

:: Linda and I are working on a specific skin and logo for the wiki. As this weekend features my birthday, we're not doing too much with it now, but we'll dig into it more after that. Not sure when we'll get it all together, as we also have RL work and so on. :)
+
2. Dead family members could be indicated in red, with individuals dead before the beginning of AGoT always appearing as red, and those who die during the events of the series only appearing red in the spoiler-protected tress as to avoid spoilers; for example in the Stark family tree, only Ned, Cat, their children and Benjen would not be red, with Ned and Benjen becoming red in the AGoT tree (perhaps with pink being used for those with unknown fates such as Benjen), and Cat and Robb becoming red in the ASoS tree.
 +
 +
3. Individuals who are stillborn, or who die in early childhood, could be indicated in orange, as I have found it confusing at times when these individuals seem not different from their other siblings; an example of a tree that would be affected would be Aerys' children, as although only Rhaegar, Viserys and Daenerys survived childhood, the 5 children between Rhaegar and Viserys are included and without clicking on each page you couldn't know that all 5 died in childhood.

:: As to the rest, it sounds like a good start. We should see about finding templates that help fill in some of the main page content area. Like I've indicated previously, something like LotR wikia is a good model. --[[User:Ran|Ran]] 07:07, 5 May 2007 (CDT)

Upload a zipped folder of images?

I know that I am setting myself for a world of pain, but if you want you can send me a link to the zip(using MediaFire for example) and I can help you out with the upload(I am can do this kind of things pretty fast) --Mor 15:59, 3 May 2012 (UTC)

Spoiler tag

On Wikipedia there is the spoiler tag: {{spoiler}}. It doesn't work here (yet). What must be done to make it work?

The Template:Spoiler and Template:Endspoiler has to be pulled in from Wikipedia. I've gone ahead and done this (I think), I haven't tried it really. BTW, remember to sign posts with four tildes enclosed in paranthesis. (Ran 11:30, 22 April 2007 (CDT))
I think it matters where the template is. On Wikipedia the templates are on ..org/wiki/Template:... On AWOIAF the template is on ...org/index.php/Template:Spoiler (Scafloc 10:11, 23 April 2007 (CDT))
I'm not sure that it does, actually,
Yep, it doesn't matter. At some point we'll look at obscuring things a little to get the unsightly index.php reference out of there, I think, but it really doesn't matter as far as template functionality. --Ran 10:31, 24 April 2007 (CDT)

how about something like this to be placed under the logo and the right menu bars?

Linda and I are working on a specific skin and logo for the wiki. As this weekend features my birthday, we're not doing too much with it now, but we'll dig into it more after that. Not sure when we'll get it all together, as we also have RL work and so on. :)

2007? Right now that post I recently made on the forum, about css and backgrounds, sounds particularly funny to me ;)
Anyway, I would like to add few suggestion to what Scafloc work. I think that we need a portals, gateways or whatever it's called, we have a lot of good and interesting content and such portals would be a starting point to introduce the users to the world of aSoIaF, provide them with key articles and categories, a place where they can always return and further explore their interests.
For example see wikipidea click on the categories in the top right corner or the french approach.
Furthermore, I feel that we need to tweak our main categories on the main page, for example
  • Combine characters and POV characters into one
  • Combine Books and chapter summaries into one
  • Give the TV HBO a separate page, something that new fans may like to explore as ran suggested on the forum.
  • And put the rest into world of ice and fire until it grow enough to be expanded other fields.
Regarding Graphics, it's would be nice if we could find some small illustrations or icons for the different categories, for example: [1] [2] [3] [4] [5]

Main Page title

I think that it would be better if we hide the Main page title as it servse no purpose and only breaks the laytout. Mor 19:28, 25 August 2011 (CDT)

I agree. However we can do that for the normal css after the bridge has been fixed which will be after the upgrade. We can do this however for custom made css. Speaking about that I did not yet look at your css, haven't found the time for it yet but never the less thanks for note. Scafloc 05:04, 26 August 2011 (CDT)
Hopefully we can get TOC limiting at the same breath, to avoid some TOC spam on certain pages, while keeping it's functionality. Mor 23:01, 4 September 2011 (CDT)

Mature Content

I just found few Tyrion related Images that surprise surprise feature whores and partial nudity. so before uploading I wanted to check out what the official policy on topic of 'Mature Content', does two nipples in tasteful picture can be considered 'Mature Content', considering the descriptions in the books and the HBO tv show??

CSS Requests and Problems

  • We have a problem with 'Headings'(e.g. == h1,h2.. == ), when placed on page with infobox(which is almost every page on the wiki), the section [edit] links floats from its place bellow the infobox.(for example). I checked the template and it's fine, I believe that the problem is with CSS setting of 'editsection' it should be defined as {float:right;margin-left:5px}. cheers, --Mor 14:23, 23 October 2011 (UTC)
  • Ok I think I got it, adding overflow: hidden; to the h1, h2, h3, h4, h5, h6 should fix it. --Mor 20:25, 22 November 2011 (UTC)
  • In my opinon <code></code> and <pre></pre> tag's create such a small text, that sometime I want to gauge my eyes out. from what I observed adding the following css code: pre, code, tt, kbd, samp {font-family: monospace,"Courier New"; would solve the problem, I hope it would be considered. cheers, --Mor 14:40, 23 October 2011 (UTC)

References

We have recently updated our 'Cite' extensions(it handles the references), fixing a standing issue we had with it and adding a very nice little feature for preview(hold your mouse over a ref). However, there is a "drawback", the new version is less tolerant toward us forgetting to place footnote references tag, thus you may notice this line Cite error: <ref> tags exist, but no <references/> tag was found at the bottom of some pages.

To fix this just add the missing section, for your convince here is the code just copy paste it at the bottom of the page:

Recurring problems

I am working on way to make various tedious repetitive tasks quicker and easier, either by semi-automaticlly process running in the background or providing anyone who wish with an auto tool that would allow you to does it yourself on per entry basis.

I would appreciate input on any recurring problems you have encountered.

So far, other than some generic fixes rules used on wikipidea and spelling corrections, I have added the following rules:

Templates, replacement and alignment. Purpose replace old templates, removing old fields that doesnt work and add new ones, plus allign the text to make the info more readable to us the editors. Include:

  • Replace and adjust, Character -> Infobox character.
  • Replace and adjust, Monarch -> Infobox monarch.
  • Adjust, Noble House.
  • Adjust, LocationMap.

Various adjustments:

  • Replace the chapter summaries references with {{Ref|xx}}, to make the text more readable for the editors and reduce the ref spam at the footnotes. (still not catching all the ADWD refs)
  • Adjust Template: {{EnWP|XXXXX}} -> {{EnWP|XXXXX|small=yes}} - to make it fit better with layout.
  • Replace link: [[XXX AL]] -> {{Date|XXX}}

Bellow:

  • Cosmetics - Add heading for Categories and Langue InterWiki.
  • Remove duplicate Langue InterWiki links added by mistake.
  • other minor changes, like splitting.

Image pages(their upload page, not the images that show on the articles):

  • adding missing Section to improve readability.
  • testing a little trick to get alot of work of our back.

If there is something you disagree with, please voice your concerns and suggestions are always great.--Mor 12:54, 27 May 2012 (UTC)

Inconsistent navigation template placement

I was adding nav templates to a load of region articles the other day. and eventually noticed there's a very inconsistent placement of these templates, most place articles have the references at the bottom, after the nav bar templates, like The North. but a quite a few other pages have the templates right at the bottom, like House Westerling or House Clegane. personally i think it's better the second way as it looks neater and is in line with Wikipedia.

People might think this is very minor. but to me it's an inconsistency, so should be fixed. Basicly i was wondering if there is an easy way i can change all of these, maybe using a wiki bot or something, peoples opinions? --SerKeplan 14:02, 23 April 2013 (UTC)
