Upload a zipped folder of images?

I have drawn many Westerosi house sigil's. e.g. http://awoiaf.westeros.org/index.php/File:32x32_Estermont.png. I have done 50% of the 350 known designs and would like them to be used on this wiki. On the family trees perhaps... Anyway I don't fancy clicking through the upload interface hundreds of times so my question is: Is there a shortcut? My inspiration was: http://algesiras.deviantart.com/art/Westeros-Houses-icons-213971788?q=boost%3Apopular%20in%3Adigitalart%2Fpixelart%20westeros&qo=0 (I have avoided doing these myself due to these ones superior quality.

There is away to bulk upload but it is simpler to upload them one by one. I know that I am setting myself for a world of pain, but if you want you can send me a link to the zip(using MediaFire for example) and I can help you out with the upload(I am can do this kind of things pretty fast) --Mor 15:59, 3 May 2012 (UTC)

Link sent in a moment. Thanks for the offer of help. I've done more than are in the zip so if you get a burning desire to make more mouse clicks just ask. Xert 19:13, 4 May 2012 (UTC)

Spoiler tag

On Wikipedia there is the spoiler tag: {{spoiler}}. It doesn't work here (yet). What must be done to make it work?

The Template:Spoiler and Template:Endspoiler has to be pulled in from Wikipedia. I've gone ahead and done this (I think), I haven't tried it really. BTW, remember to sign posts with four tildes enclosed in paranthesis. (Ran 11:30, 22 April 2007 (CDT))
I think it matters where the template is. On Wikipedia the templates are on ..org/wiki/Template:... On AWOIAF the template is on ...org/index.php/Template:Spoiler (Scafloc 10:11, 23 April 2007 (CDT))
I'm not sure that it does, actually,
Yep, it doesn't matter. At some point we'll look at obscuring things a little to get the unsightly index.php reference out of there, I think, but it really doesn't matter as far as template functionality. --Ran 10:31, 24 April 2007 (CDT)

Content on the Main Page

The number of articles are growing and I think we are ready to give other things some thought. For exemple the Main Page; what should it contain? Below some things I can think of (I borrowed heavily from other wikis). Feel free to comment or to add Scafloc 11:21, 3 May 2007 (CDT)

Content:

  • A bit more information about the Wiki and Ice and Fire
  • Feature Article
  • Feature picture (when we have some?)
  • Quote of the day / week
  • Standard navigation: books, Great Houses. Not to many items I think
  • Main Categories
  • Link to newest page(s) on the wiki
  • Link to other ASOIAF pages or link to page that collects those?
  • Collaboration of the Month
  • Maybe some information about do's and don'ts, but I think that those should come on the Community Portal
  • Bits of news about things having to do with ASOIAF; information about publishing role-playing game based on A Song of Ice and Fire, GRRM's next appearance
  • Statistics (number of visiters?)
  • "Did you know..." section
  • "Take the tour" visitor gets an overview in a couple of steps about the wiki

Graphics:

  • Background; what colour?
  • Logo? A direwollf sitting on a dragon??? Or dragon and direwolf on coat of arms?
how about something like this to be placed under the logo and the right menu bars?

Linda and I are working on a specific skin and logo for the wiki. As this weekend features my birthday, we're not doing too much with it now, but we'll dig into it more after that. Not sure when we'll get it all together, as we also have RL work and so on. :)
As to the rest, it sounds like a good start. We should see about finding templates that help fill in some of the main page content area. Like I've indicated previously, something like LotR wikia is a good model. --Ran 07:07, 5 May 2007 (CDT)

2007? Right now that post I recently made on the forum, about css and backgrounds, sounds particularly funny to me ;)
Anyway, I would like to add few suggestion to what Scafloc work. I think that we need a portals, gateways or whatever it's called, we have a lot of good and interesting content and such portals would be a starting point to introduce the users to the world of aSoIaF, provide them with key articles and categories, a place where they can always return and further explore their interests.
For example see wikipidea click on the categories in the top right corner or the french approach.
Furthermore, I feel that we need to tweak our main categories on the main page, for example
  • Combine characters and POV characters into one
  • Combine Books and chapter summaries into one
  • Give the TV HBO a separate page, something that new fans may like to explore as ran suggested on the forum.
  • And put the rest into world of ice and fire until it grow enough to be expanded other fields.
Regarding Graphics, it's would be nice if we could find some small illustrations or icons for the different categories, for example: [1] [2] [3] [4] [5]

Main Page title

I think that it would be better if we hide the Main page title as it servse no purpose and only breaks the laytout. Mor 19:28, 25 August 2011 (CDT)

I agree. However we can do that for the normal css after the bridge has been fixed which will be after the upgrade. We can do this however for custom made css. Speaking about that I did not yet look at your css, haven't found the time for it yet but never the less thanks for note. Scafloc 05:04, 26 August 2011 (CDT)
Hopefully we can get TOC limiting at the same breath, to avoid some TOC spam on certain pages, while keeping it's functionality. Mor 23:01, 4 September 2011 (CDT)
Nevermind. Think I've sorted those.. --Ran 12:42, 9 October 2011 (UTC)

Mature Content

I just found few Tyrion related Images that surprise surprise feature whores and partial nudity. so before uploading I wanted to check out what the official policy on topic of 'Mature Content', does two nipples in tasteful picture can be considered 'Mature Content', considering the descriptions in the books and the HBO tv show??

CSS Requests and Problems

  • We have a problem with 'Headings'(e.g. == h1,h2.. == ), when placed on page with infobox(which is almost every page on the wiki), the section [edit] links floats from its place bellow the infobox.(for example). I checked the template and it's fine, I believe that the problem is with CSS setting of 'editsection' it should be defined as {float:right;margin-left:5px}. cheers, --Mor 14:23, 23 October 2011 (UTC)
  • Ok I think I got it, adding overflow: hidden; to the h1, h2, h3, h4, h5, h6 should fix it. --Mor 20:25, 22 November 2011 (UTC)
  • In my opinon <code></code> and <pre></pre> tag's create such a small text, that sometime I want to gauge my eyes out. from what I observed adding the following css code: pre, code, tt, kbd, samp {font-family: monospace,"Courier New"; would solve the problem, I hope it would be considered. cheers, --Mor 14:40, 23 October 2011 (UTC)

References

We have recently updated our 'Cite' extensions(it handles the references), fixing a standing issue we had with it and adding a very nice little feature for preview(hold your mouse over a ref). However, there is a "drawback", the new version is less tolerant toward us forgetting to place footnote references tag, thus you may notice this line Cite error: <ref> tags exist, but no <references/> tag was found at the bottom of some pages.

To fix this just add the missing section, for your convince here is the code just copy paste it at the bottom of the page:

==References and Notes==
{{References}}

Recurring problems

I am working on way to make various tedious repetitive tasks quicker and easier, either by semi-automaticlly process running in the background or providing anyone who wish with an auto tool that would allow you to does it yourself on per entry basis.

I would appreciate input on any recurring problems you have encountered. Anything from un-needed spaces, small-case/upper-case, some grammar error or anything that makes the article less readable to you. Also you can suggest change for article structure or changing categories names(I know I seen many of those with stupid name and just went with it because it was to much of hassle to change it) or anything else you can think of, just post it here and let me worry if this can be done.

So far, other than some generic fixes rules used on wikipidea and spelling corrections, I have added the following rules:

Templates, replacement and alignment. Purpose replace old templates, removing old fields that doesnt work and add new ones, plus allign the text to make the info more readable to us the editors. Include:

  • Replace and adjust, Character -> Infobox character.
  • Replace and adjust, Monarch -> Infobox monarch.
  • Adjust, Noble House.
  • Adjust, LocationMap.

  • Replace the chapter summaries references with {{Ref|xx}}, to make the text more readable for the editors and reduce the ref spam at the footnotes. (still not catching all the ADWD refs)
  • Adjust Template: {{EnWP|XXXXX}} -> {{EnWP|XXXXX|small=yes}} - to make it fit better with layout.
  • Replace link: [[XXX AL]] -> {{Date|XXX}}

Bellow:

  • Cosmetics - Add heading for Categories and Langue InterWiki.
  • Remove duplicate Langue InterWiki links added by mistake.
  • other minor changes, like splitting.

Image pages(their upload page, not the images that show on the articles):

  • adding missing Section to improve readability.
  • testing a little trick to get alot of work of our back.
