Aethan Velaryon was the powerful Lord of the Tides, Master of Driftmark, and head of House Velaryon during the reigns of Aegon I Targaryen and Aenys I Targaryen. He was married to Lady Alarra Massey[3] and had several sons, including Daemon, and at least one daughter, Alyssa.[1]

Aethan was the namesake for Lord Aethan's Glory, a notable warship serving the Velaryon fleet under Lord Corlys Velaryon.[4]

History

Aethan served King Aegon I Targaryen as lord admiral and master of ships. In 22 AC, his daughter, Lady Alyssa, was married to her cousin, Prince Aenys Targaryen, as the prince lacked a sister to wed and the Velaryons were also of Valyrian stock.[1] Lord Aethan was aided by Prince Maegor Targaryen and Ser Osmund Strong during campaigns against Sargoso Saan, a pirate-king of the Stepstones, in 29 AC and 30 AC.[1]

Aethan's daughter became a queen when Aegon I passed away and Aenys became Lord of the Seven Kingdoms. After the death of King Aenys, Queen Alyssa fled back to her lord father's seat on Driftmark, taking her children with her. Aethan passed away during the reign of Maegor I Targaryen.[1]

Family

Aethan Velaryon was the son and heir of Lord Daemon Velaryon. He had several siblings, including Ser Corlys Velaryon, the first Lord Commander of the Kingsguard. He married Lady Alarra of House Massey and had several children, including Daemon and Alyssa.[1]

Daemon would succeed Aethan as Lord of the Tides, while Alyssa wed Aenys I Targaryen and became queen of the realm. As a result of Alyssa's marriages, both House Targaryen and House Baratheon descend from Aethan.[1][3]
