History
After King Jaehaerys I Targaryen wed his sister, Alysanne, Jaehaerys sent seven preachers to walk the realm and win the small folk over to the marriage, not with swords, but with words. Cunning and quick-witted Septon Baldrick was among these seven. They traveled the realm alone, walking from village to village, telling the smallfolk of Jaehaerys's wisdom and Alysanne's kindness. When challenged on the issue of incest, the seven would say the Valyrians mounted dragons and thus were not like other men, and as such, an exception had to be made.[1]
Quotes
Hedge Knight: Aye, and if I want to fuck my sister too, do I have your leave?
Baldrick: Go to Dragonstone and claim a dragon. If you can so that, ser, I will marry you and your sister myself.[1]—Septon Baldrick to a Hedge knight
Behind the Scenes
Baldrick might be a reference by George R. R. Martin to Baldrick in the historical comedy Blackadder, whose catch phrase is "I have a cunning plan".
