Daemon is handsome with a strong jaw, sky blue eyes and light sandy brown hair he has a close-cropped beard. He has dimples when he smiles.

History

Daemon took Arianne Martell's maidenhead when she was fourteen, he had not been much older so their couplings had been as clumsy as they were ardent. Still, Arianne recollects that it had been sweet. Although Arianne's father, Doran Martell eventually learned this he did not do anything.[2] Daemon asked Doran for Arianne's hand and was refused.[3]

He later squired for Oberyn Martell [4] and received his knighthood from the Red Viper himself. There are rumours that he also became Oberyn's lover, though this is seldom said to his face.[5] Things have never been the same between Arianne and Daemon after her father refused his offer for her hand.

Recent Events

A Storm of Swords

Daemon, who had at some point become a knight, was part of the nobles and knights that accompanied Oberyn Martell to King's Landing to take his place on the Small Council as had been negotiated by Oberyn's brother.[6] When Oberyn championed Tyrion's cause, Ser Daemon served as his squire.[7]

A Feast for Crows

After Oberyn's death at the hands of Ser Gregor Clegane, Daemon sent a bird to Nymeria Sand telling of the fates of Oberyn and Clegane.[8] He later returned to Dorne and was swiftly imprisoned by Doran Martell.[4]

A Dance with Dragons

He is later freed by Prince Doran along with Obara, Tyene and Nymeria Sand and is present at the feast when Balon Swann arrives in Sunspear to deliver the head of Ser Gregor Clegane. When Ricasso raises a toast to King Tommen Baratheon Daemon Sand declined the toast.[9]

The Winds of Winter

He becomes the sworn shield to Arianne Martell and travels with her and her companions to Ghost Hill.[5]

Quotes

Of all the knights in Dorne, why did my father chose this one to be my shield? He knows our history.[5]
