Ser Donnel of Duskendale was a member of the Kingsguard during the reigns of the kings Daeron II and Aerys I Targaryen.[1]

Appearance and Character

Donnel was red of hair and red of beard, and shorter than his sworn brother Ser Roland Crakehall.[2] Originally from the port town of Duskendale in the crownlands, Donnel is not a member of House Darklyn, the ruling family, though he may have been inspired by their coat of arms for his personal heraldry.[3]

Ser Duncan the Tall considered Donnel and his fellow sworn brothers to be the most puissant knights in the realm, aside from Prince Baelor Targaryen.[2]

History

At the tourney at Maidenpool in 208 AC, Ser Donnel of Duskendale was overthrown by Ser Humfrey Hardyng in the lists.[2]

The following year, Ser Donnel, along with his two fellow brothers of the Kingsguard, Ser Roland Crakehall and Ser Willem Wylde, escorted the Targaryen princes to the tourney at Ashford Meadow. As the princes participated in the tourney, the Kingsguard knights do not join in the lists, as it would not be fitting to have them ride against those they are sworn to protect.[2] After the princes Daeron and Aegon Targaryen disappear, Ser Donnel accompanies Prince Maekar Targaryen in searching for them.[1] The three of them fought on the side of Prince Aerion Targaryen during the trial of seven. In the first charge, he slew Ser Humfrey Beesbury during the trial.[2]

After King Daeron II passed away during the Great Spring Sickness, Ser Donnel continued to serve in the Kingsguard of Aerys I Targaryen.[1]
