Prince Duncan Targaryen, also known as Prince Duncan the Small and the Prince of Dragonflies, was the first son of Aegon V Targaryen.
History
Prince Duncan defeated Ser Barristan Selmy in the tourney at Blackhaven, when Barristan was only a ten-year old squire and participating in the tourney as a mystery knight. Prince Duncan took pity on the small knight and jousted against him when no one else would, giving Barristan the nickname "the Bold." Years later he was defeated by Ser Barristan at a winter tourney in King's Landing.[1]
Prince Duncan fell in love with a woman known as Jenny of Oldstones and loved her so much he gave up his crown for her and married her against his father's wishes. It was possible that after this he became known as the Prince of Dragonflies. He died in the Tragedy at Summerhall alongside his father, Aegon V Targaryen, his namesake, Ser Duncan the Tall, and several other members of the royal court.[2]<re>Aegon V Targaryen entry in A World of Ice and Fire</ref>
Songs
There is a song with a Prince of Dragonflies that loves a Jenny of Oldstones, but it is not clear if the song is about this Prince Duncan or whether Prince Duncan took the moniker Prince of Dragonflies from the song or from when he gave up his crown.
Quotes
The Prince of Dragonflies loved Jenny of Oldstones so much he cast aside a crown, and Westeros paid the price in corpses.
