Edmyn Tully was the Lord of Riverrun and the head of House Tully during Aegon's Conquest. The first of the riverlords to join Aegon the Conqueror against King Harren Hoare, Aegon rewarded Edmyn by raising him to Lord Paramount of the Trident when Harren and his line perished.[2][3]

Edmyn helped repair damage done to the riverlands by Harren the Black, and he also served as Hand of the King to King Aegon I.[2] He had three daughters,[4] one of whom married Quenton Qoherys, Lord of Harrenhal.[2]

History

Aegon's Conquest

When Harren Hoare, King of the Isles and the Rivers, built Harrenhal, he beggared the nobility and smallfolk of the riverlands, gathering materials and gold for his great seat. When Aegon I Targaryen began his conquest of Westeros, King Harren the Black summoned the riverlords to the defense of Harrenhal. Instead, Lord Edmyn Tully was the first riverlord to join Aegon the Conqueror's side in the fight against the ironborn, declaring for House Targaryen. He rode forth with his knights and archers to join his strength to Aegon's, and was followed by the major lords of the Trident.[1]

When Edmyn and the riverlords joined their strength to Aegon's, the large host surrounded the castle.[1] Harren offered Edmyn's daughters to whomever could slay Aegon's dragons.[4] After Harren and his line perished in the burning of Harrenhal, Aegon accepted an oath of fealty from Edmyn and granted him dominion over the riverlands as Lord Paramount of the Trident, requiring the other riverlords to swear him fealty.[3][5] Some even proposed to grant Edmyn dominion over the Iron Islands as well, but this did not come to pass.[2][6]

Edmyn did much to repair the damage Harren caused, forging new ties among the Seven Kingdoms. Aegon granted Harrenhal to Lord Quenton Qoherys, who took one of Edmyn's daughters to wife. However, this connection proved troublesome in later years, alleviated only with the swift end of House Qoherys.[2]

Hand of the King

After Aegon's coronation as Lord of the Seven Kingdoms, House Tully claimed a place of prominence beneath the Iron Throne.[7] When Orys Baratheon, Lord of Storm's End, resigned as Hand of the King during the First Dornish War, King Aegon I called on Lord Edmyn to serve in the office in 7 AC. However, in 9 AC, Edmyn's wife died in childbirth. Deciding that his children had more need of him than the realm, he begged leave to return to his family at Riverrun and resigned from the office. Lord Tully was succeeded as Hand of the King by Lord Alton Celtigar.[8]
