The north and the location of the Fever River

The Fever River is a river in the southern regions of the north.

Geography

The Fever River's source is in the northern portion of the Neck,[1], and Moat Cailin lies less than twenty miles from its headwaters. The river flows west to the Saltspear,[2] an inlet of Blazewater Bay.[3]

There are reeds and willows along the Fever River.[4]

History

There were reports that Rhaena Targaryen and her dragon, Dreamfyre, were seen as far north as the barrowlands and the banks of the Fever River during her search for the missing Aerea Targaryen.[5]

Recent Events

A Clash of Kings

Balon Greyjoy, Lord of the Iron Islands, plans an invasion of the north and declares himself King of the Iron Islands.[6] His younger brother, Lord Captain Victarion Greyjoy, sails the Iron Fleet up the Saltspear and the Fever River to take Moat Cailin, which lies nearby.[2][7] Balon styles himself King of the Isles and the North during the War of the Five Kings.[8]

A Feast for Crows

The Iron Fleet lays among the reeds and willows of the Fever River. After King Balon's death at Pyke, Victarion departs with nine-tenths of the Iron Fleet for the kingsmoot on Old Wyk.[4]

A Dance with Dragons

The Ryswells and Dustins surprise the remaining ironmen on the Fever River and burn their ten longships.[9]

Behind the Scenes

The Fever River is a reference by George R. R. Martin to his novel Fevre Dream, which is set on the Mississippi River.[10]
