The Goldroad[1][2] or gold road[3] is a major road in southern Westeros. Beginning at the Lion Gate of King's Landing in the crownlands, it extends west along the Blackwater Rush and then through a portion of the northern Reach. The castle of Deep Den guards the Goldroad as it passes through the hills of the westerlands. The road ends at Lannisport and Casterly Rock, seat of House Lannister.[4][5]

History

The Goldroad was built after House Targaryen's War of Conquest. Its route passes near the Field of Fire.[2]

Recent Events

A Game of Thrones

After Lord Eddard Stark is wounded in the streets of King's Landing, Ser Jaime Lannister flees the capital[6] and takes the Goldroad to Casterly Rock.[7]

A Storm of Swords

Ser Brynden Tully tells his nephew, Ser Edmure Tully, that Brynden and Robb Stark, King in the North, had wanted to fortify a position on the gold road against Lord Tywin Lannister. Edmure's defeat of Tywin in the Battle of the Fords nullified their plan, however.[3]

A Dance with Dragons

Ser Kevan Lannister takes the Goldroad from Casterly Rock to King's Landing to become the Regent for King Tommen I Baratheon.[8]
