House Brune of Brownhollow is a house of landed knights from Brownhollow, which is located in Crackclaw Point in the crownlands.[1] According to semi-canon sources they blazon their arms with a bear paw, brown on white, within a double tressure brown.[2] Their words are not known.

The Brunes of Brownhollow are cousins to the Brunes of the Dyre Den.[3] Archmaester Gyldayn considers the Brunes of Crackclaw to be half-wild.[4]

History

The Brunes of Brownhollow are an old knightly family from Crackclaw Point.[1]

The Brothers Brune were legendary champions who brought peace to Crackclaw.[5]

Bernarr Brune was squire to Lord Alyn Stokeworth, the Hand of the King to King Aegon I and Aenys I Targaryen. When Lord Alyn was slain by the rebel Harren the Red, Bernarr cut down the outlaw and was rewarded with knighthood. Bernarr was later one of the champions in Maegor I Targaryen's trial of seven.[6]

During the Dance of the Dragons, the Brunes declared for Rhaenyra Targaryen's blacks. Brune forces joined Lord Walys Mooton to liberate Rook's Rest from the control of Aegon II Targaryen's greens.[4]

Brunes were with Rhaegar Targaryen, Prince of Dragonstone, at the Battle of the Trident during Robert's Rebellion.[5]

Lothor Brune, distant kin to the Brunes of Brownhollow, visited the family after his father died. The Brunes sent Lothor away, however, claiming he was not of their blood.[1]

Lothor's men slay Dontos Hollard after the fool leads Sansa Stark to Petyr's ship, Merling King, in Blackwater Bay.[9] Lothor accompanies Petyr and Sansa to the Vale of Arryn.[10]
