House Longwaters
Region The Crownlands
Overlord House Baratheon of King's Landing

House Longwaters is a very minor noble house of the Crownlands. Its members descend, through bastardy, from several ancient great houses.

History

During the Dance of the Dragons, the baseborn dragonseeds Alyn and Addam of Hull were legitimized as members of House Velaryon by the would-be Queen Rhaenyra Targaryen, whose husband Ser Laenor Velaryon their mother Marilda claimed had fathered them. The court fool Mushroom claimed they were rather the children of Laenor's father, Lord Corlys Velaryon. Either way, they were designated the true heirs of Driftmark, and carried the blood of old Valyria.[1]

While Addam fell in the civil war, the dragon-scarred Alyn would go on to succeed his grandfather (or possible father) as Lord of Driftmark, Lord of the Tides, and head of House Velaryon. Dubbed "Oakenfist", he became very famous through his many deeds - among them fighting off Dalton Greyjoy, securing the release of Prince (and future King) Viserys from Lys, making many great journeys far and wide, serving as Master of Ships under King Daeron the Young Dragon, contributing greatly to the Conquest of Dorne, and fighting pirate lords, all before disappearing at sea.[1][2][3]

Although he had children with his wife Lady Baela Targaryen, Lord Alyn loved Princess Elaena Targaryen, daughter of King Aegon III Targaryen and Daenaera Velaryon. They had two children, Jon and Jeyne Waters.[4] The illegitimate twins thus descended not only from House Velaryon, but also from the dragonlords of the ancient House Targaryen, and through that ancestry also from House Arryn, House Upcliff, House Hunter, and House Stark, giving them both Andal and First Men blood.

It is unknown if Lord Alyn ever acknowledged his bastards. Regardless, due to the noble blood of both their parents, the twins were considered non-baseborn natural children. Despite his bastardy, and perhaps with the aid of his father, Jon Waters went on to become a great and famous knight in his own right. His son, whose name is yet unknown, went on to become the same. As the son was the legitimate child of Ser Jon Waters and his wife, he left the taint of bastardy behind him, and added "Long" to his name to show this.[5]

One of their descendants, Rennifer Longwaters, would later serve his distant Baratheon kin as chief undergaoler of the dungeons below the Red Keep of King's Landing.[5]

A Feast for Crows

Ser Jaime Lannister enquired into Rennifer Longwaters' role in the escape of Tyrion Lannister from the dungeons. Rennifer explained how the cells work, while boasting of his ancestry and how he had a "drop of dragon" in him.[5] When Ser Jaime seeks out Ser Ilyn Payne before departing for the Riverlands, Rennifer lets Ser Jaime into Ser Ilyn's quarters.[6]
