House Mallister of Seagard is one of the most prominent noble houses from the riverlands. Seagard is a fortress built to defend the coast against the reavers from the Iron Islands, and dates from before Aegon's Conquest.[2]

Their blazon is a silver eagle displayed, on a purple field.[3][4] Their motto is "Above the rest".[5]

Traits

House Mallister has a prouder lineage than their liege lords, House Tully of Riverrun, the Lords Paramount of the Trident.[6]

Some Mallisters have worn winged helms,[7][8] and Mallister guardsmen wear indigo cloaks.[9]

The Mallisters distrust the ironborn.[10]

History

Andal Era

The Mallisters conquered most of the Cape of Eagles from the ironborn during the reign of King Torgon Greyiron.[11]

In the century that followed the fall of House Justman, the Mallisters were one of the many river lords who were petty river kings, with House Teague eventually controlling the riverlands.[12]

Lord Petyr Mallister rose against the Storm Kings of House Durrandon, having a brief and inglorious reign as King of the Trident before his defeat.[12]

Targaryen Era

Ser Denys Mallister, by Romain Leguay © Fantasy Flight Games

House Mallister aided House Targaryen during Aegon's Conquest and rebelled against King Harren the Black of Harrenhal.[13]

Lord Mallister attended the Golden Wedding in 49 AC and considered young King Jaehaerys I Targaryen to be wiser than his years.[14]

In 105 AC, Lord Lymond Mallister unhorsed Ser Criston Cole at the tourney at Maidenpool to celebrate the accession of King Viserys I Targaryen.[15]

The Mallisters declared for Queen Rhaenyra Targaryen and the blacks during the Dance of the Dragons.[16] Lord Borros Baratheon slew Lord Jorah Mallister during the Battle of the Kingsroad.[17]

Ser Desmond Mallister had a great and tragic friendship with Lord Loron Greyjoy.[18]

Ser Joseth Mallister jousted in the tourney at Ashford Meadow. He was left unconscious in one of the first tilts.[7]

Ser Denys Mallister, twice a candidate to become Lord Commander of the Night's Watch, has been the commander of the Shadow Tower since 267 AC.[19]

Lord Jason

Prince Rhaegar Targaryen unhorsed Lord Jason Mallister in a tourney at Storm's End.[20] Jeffory Mallister was one of the companions of Brandon Stark who were accused of treason and executed by order of Rhaegar's father, the Mad King Aerys II Targaryen, in 282 AC.[21]

During Robert's Rebellion against Aerys, Lord Jason attended the wedding between Catelyn Tully and Eddard Stark at Riverrun and gave lavish gifts.[9] At the Battle of the Trident, Jason slew three of Rhaegar's bannermen.[8]

During Greyjoy's Rebellion against King Robert I Baratheon, Jason slew Rodrik Greyjoy while defending against the storming of Seagard.[2] He took part in the tourney at Lannisport following the rebellion, but he was defeated by the eventual victor, Lord Jorah Mormont.[22]

Will was caught poaching by Mallister freeriders and then sent to the Night's Watch.[23]

After the death of King Robert I Baratheon, Jason is named among the nobles the newly-crowned King Joffrey I Baratheon insists must do him fealty or be named traitors.[24]

The Mallisters join the northern host when Robb Stark rides south from the Twins. Jason's son, Patrek Mallister, is one of the thirty young sons of lords that ride with Robb in the battle in the Whispering Wood and the Battle of the Camps.[25] Meanwhile, Jason holds a subordinate command and captures Ser Gawen Westerling.[26] At Riverrun, the Mallisters join in proclaiming Robb as King in the North.[27]
