History

During the First Dornish War, Lord Mertyns and his entire household were poisoned by means of a cask of Dornish wine by Dornish assassins.[4]

Lord Jon Mertyns traveled to King's Landing for the wedding of Queen Alyssa Velaryon to Lord Rogar Baratheon, where he spoke to the young King Jaehaerys I Targaryen and approved of his good-humored nature.[5]

Ser Michael Mertyns, better known as the White Owl, was a member of the Kingsguard.[6]

The sons and grandsons of Lady Mary Mertyns initially support Renly Baratheon during the War of the Five Kings, with a grandson wounded in the Battle of the Blackwater. Since the Mertyns men are away, Mistwood falls to the Golden Company during their invasion of the stormlands. Young John Mudd and Chain keep Mary under house arrest and host Arianne Martell for a night.[7]
