Martin had envisioned the seven stars being silver, but after seeing the heraldry rendered he considered that silver and white did not differentiate themselves enough. Lord Guncer Sunglass answers the summons of Stannis Baratheon when he calls his banners against King Joffrey Baratheon. Lord Sunglass is seen wearing moonstones at throat and wrist and finger by Maester Cressen at Dragonstone.

After Melisandre's profaning of the sept of Dragonstone and the deaths of his Rambton bannermen, pious Lord Sunglass declares to Stannis that he no longer supports his claim, which leads to his imprisonment. Three galleys named Piety, Prayer, and Devotion are seized from House Sunglass and take part in the Battle of the Blackwater.
