He accompanies Lord Eddard Stark to King's Landing when Eddard is named Hand of the King.[2]
Varly and Jacks make up the escort for Eddard Stark when he visits the armorer Tobho Mott and discovers Gendry, one of Robert Baratheon’s bastard children.[3].
A Clash of Kings
Jacks somehow survives the slaughter when Cersei consolidates power following King Robert's death and he is imprisoned. He is later sent with Cleos Frey when he is returning Tyrion Lannister's counter terms and Lord Eddard's bones to Robb Stark. He is then put under the command of Hallis Mollen.[4]
