Jocelyn Baratheon was a member of House Baratheon. She was the daughter of Lord Rogar Baratheon and Dowager Queen Alyssa Velaryon, and their second child together.[2]
Character and Appearance
Jocelyn at the age of sixteen was considered one of the most beautiful maidens in the realm; long legged, full-breasted with thick straight black hair that fell to her waist. Jocelyn was an inch short of being six foot tall.[3]
History
Alyssa Velaryon, the widow of King Aenys I Targaryen, married Rogar Baratheon, Lord of Storm's End, in 50 AC. The marriage produced two children, Boremund and Jocelyn. Jocelyn was born a month premature in 54 AC and her mother's was near death during the labour. Storm's End's Maester Kyrie told Lord Rogar that nothing could be done for Alyssa, but he could save the baby, however doing so would kill Alyssa. Lord Rogar reluctantly told the maester to save his child. Maester Kyrie cut the unconscious Alyssa's belly open to save the babe, who was later named Jocelyn. [4][2]
In 61 AC Jocelyn at the age of seven came to King's Landing, the young Prince Aemon asked to be seated next to her at the feast to celebrate his investiture as the Prince of Dragonstone. The two young people were observed laughing together throughout the evening, to the exclusion of others. [3]
In 70 AC Jocelyn married Aemon, the eldest living son and heir apparent of King Jaehaerys I Targaryen in a ceremony that was said to rival the Golden Wedding. All agreed the pair made a handsome couple, Jocelyn despite being near six foot tall, would have towered over most men, but Prince Aemon was three inches taller. The Lord Commander of the Kingsguard, Ser Gyles Morrigen when he beheld the couple said "There stands the future of the realm".[3][4] Jocelyn and Aemon's daughter and only child, Princess Rhaenys Targaryen, was born in 74 AC.[1][5] In 92 AC, Prince Aemon died in battle, and King Jaehaerys passed over Rhaenys in favor of bestowing Dragonstone and the place of heir apparent upon his next oldest son, Prince Baelon.[6]
