Kaeth

Title Grand Maester
Born 175 AC, 176 AC or 177 AC[1]
Died In 257 AC or 258 AC[1]King's Landing
Books

Kaeth was a Grand Maester of the Citadel.

History

About 257 AC Kaeth was made Grand Maester at the age of eighty and sent to serve the court of King Aegon V Targaryen in King's Landing. He died within a year of his appointment and was succeeded by Grand Maester Ellendor.[2]

Grand Maester Kaeth wrote the well-regarded work Lives of Four Kings, a detailed history of the reigns of Daeron I, Baelor I, Aegon IV, and Daeron II. Kaeth scants Viserys II terribly, however, as his short reign as king came after Baelor's.[3]

The book is considered to be an excellent treatise of the art of rulership. Ser Kevan Lannister[citation needed] and his nephew Tyrion Lannister[citation needed] are amongst its appreciators, as is Prince Oberyn Martell.[citation needed]

Quotes

Aenys was weak and Maegor was cruel, and Aegon II was grasping, but no king before or after would practice so much willful misrule.[4]

— Kaeth on King Aegon IV Targaryen
