Kennet was a maester who served Lord Cregan Stark at Winterfell. Kennet gathered information about the north and wrote Passages of the Dead, a study of northern burial methods.[1]

History

Maester Kennet investigated the barrow fields, graves, and tombs on the north.[1] He studied a giant's barrow near Long Lake which included obsidian arrowheads possibly used by children of the forest.[1] In Passages of the Dead he recorded the legend of a curse placed on the Great Barrow to prevent any man from rivaling the First King.[2]

Kennet also determined that the First Keep of Winterfell was raised after the arrival of the coming of the Andals.[3]

Behind the Scenes

Kennet may be a reference by George R. R. Martin to the West Kennet Long Barrow.
