Kyra escaped from the Dreadfort through a postern gate. Not knowing the way back to Winterfell, she also sets Theon Greyjoy free.[5] However, their escape proved to be a game devised by Ramsay Bolton, so he could hunt them for sport with his hounds.

During their flight, when they heard the horns and hounds behind them, Theon suggested they split up, but Kyra was crazed with fear and refused to leave him.[5] They were both caught within the hour. One of the hounds bit Kyra on the leg while another knocked Theon to the ground. When Ramsay himself rode up Kyra threw a stone at his head, though she missed by a foot.[5]

Theon was returned to the Dreadfort while Kyra suffered a painful and grisly death. Ramsay enjoyed the hunt and later names a pup from his hounds' next litter "Kyra".[6]
