Lannisport is a walled city ruled by House Lannister of Casterly Rock, which is just north of the city;[1] Lord Tywin Lannister includes Shield of Lannisport amongst his titles.[2] Lannisport is located along the coast of the Sunset Sea where the river road, the gold road, and the ocean road meet.[3] It is one of the major ports of the Seven Kingdoms and is the largest settlement in the Westerlands. Lannisport is smaller than King's Landing or Oldtown, but larger than Gulltown or White Harbor.[4]
The Lannisters anchors their fleet in its harbor. The city is renowned for its goldwork.[5] Lannisport is policed by the well-trained City Watch.[6] The city is home to the cadet branch House Lannister of Lannisport and distant kin to the Lannisters like Lannys, Lannetts, Lantells, and other lesser Lannisters, many of which are yellow of hair.[7]
History
Ser Arlan of Pennytree once unhorsed the Grey Lion in a tourney at Lannisport.[8]
Ser Quentyn Ball attacked the city during the Blackfyre Rebellion, slaying Lord Lefford outside its gates.[9] During the Great Spring Sickness, Lannisport was among the cities hit hardest.[10] Dunk learned to kiss from a Lannisport tavern girl in 208 AC.[8]
Lord Tywin Lannister hosted a tourney for King Aerys II in Lannisport in 276 AC.
During the Greyjoy Rebellion, Lannisport saw both triumph and disaster. The ironmen cunningly sailed into the harbor at Lannisport and burned the Lannister fleet at anchor.[11] Aeron Greyjoy was captured after the Battle of Fair Isle, taken to Lannisport in chains, and spent the rest of the war imprisoned in Casterly Rock.[12] At the end of the war, in celebration of their victory over House Greyjoy, King Robert Baratheon ordered a tourney to be held. This was the site of the Tourney at Lannisport of 289 AC, where Ser Jorah Mormont won the hand of Lynesse Hightower.[13]
