A Storm of Swords

Lew is part of the great ranging, the force that leaves Castle Black and the Shadow Tower in search of Benjen Stark and Mance Rayder. He survives the fight at the Fist. Lew stays loyal to the Watch during the mutiny at Craster's Keep and is one of the few survivors of the ranging to make it all the way back to Castle Black.[1]

A Feast for Crows

Lew is stationed at Castle Black.[2] He accompanies Black Jack Bulwer in escorting Samwell Tarly, Maester Aemon, and Gilly to Eastwatch-by-the-Sea.[3]

A Dance with Dragons

Lew, a man in his prime, guards Lord Commander Jon Snow when Tormund's wildlings pass through the Wall.[4] He later is present when Jon Snow presents his plans for the rescue mission at Hardhome, before telling those present about the letter he received, purportedly from Ramsay Bolton.[5]
