History

A messenger deliver a crucial message on time to a Storm King of House Durrandon, for this the king raised him to lordship, and he became the first Lord Dondarrion.[8]

In 37 AC, Lord Harmon Dondarrion helped Lady Ellyn Caron and Lord Samwell Tarly defeat the Vulture King, who had previously cut off his nose. King Aenys I Targaryen rewarded the lords for restoring the King's Peace in the realm.[4]

Lord Dondarrion alongside Lords Selmy and Tarly represented the Dornish Marches at the wedding between Lord Rogar Baratheon and the Regent Alyssa Velaryon in 49 AC.[9] Six years later, Lord Dondarrion hosted King Jaehaerys I Targaryen and Queen Alysanne Targaryen at Blackhaven.[10]

Lord Simon Dondarrion was a noted musician and warrior who helped to defeat a Vulture King in the Third Dornish War.[11]

During the reign of King Daeron II Targaryen, Lords Dondarrion and Caron burned a Vulture King out of the Red Mountains.[8]

Ser Barristan Selmy was dubbed "the Bold" during a tourney held at Blackhaven by Lord Dondarrion.[12]

Lord Beric Dondarrion was betrothed to Allyria Dayne of Starfall.[13]

Recent Events

A Game of Thrones

Lord Beric comes to King's Landing to participe in the Hand's tourney celebrating Eddard Stark's appointment as Hand of the King.[14] After the conclusion of the tournament, Beric remains in the capital. Lord Eddard later appoints him the leader of an expedition to arrest Ser Gregor Clegane, who has been raiding the riverlands after the capture of Tyrion Lannister.[15]

Beric's party is ambushed in the battle at the Mummer's Ford, however, with many killed.[16] Lord Dondarrion is named among the nobles King Joffrey I Baratheon insists must do homage to him or be named traitors.[17]

A Clash of Kings

Rumors have Beric as missing or perhaps dead.[18][19] Ser Burton Crakehall,[20] Ser Amory Lorch,[21] and Ser Gregor Clegane[21] all claim to have killed him. Yet, he is still raiding the Lannister foraging parties[20] and the Mountain's men are actively seeking him.[22]

A Storm of Swords

Beric travels throughout the riverlands, including a visit to Acorn Hall.[23] When Arya Stark, Gendry and Hot Pie are brought to Beric by members of the brotherhood without banners, they learn Beric is a follower of the Lord of Light. They watch as Sandor Clegane duels Beric in a trial by battle. While Thoros of Myr always lit his blades with wildfire, Beric uses his own blood to make his sword magically aflame. Despite Sandor's fear of fire, he is able to slay Beric. Much to their surprise, however, Beric is revived by Thoros.[24]

It is revealed that Beric was resurrected several times by Thoros who performed the last kiss of the Lord of Light on him.[25] The successive deaths and resurrections take a toll on Beric's body and mind.[24][25]

Beric is aided by his squire, Lord Edric Dayne, during the battle at the burning septry against the Bloody Mummers, after which he knights Gendry.[25] Beric later visits the ghost of High Heart to hear her wisdom. Because Beric wants to ransom Arya to her family, the girl runs away from the brotherhood.[26]

Three days after the Red Wedding, Lord Beric performs the last kiss on Catelyn Stark's corpse leading to her resurrection as "Lady Stoneheart" and Beric's final death.[27] The name of Lord Beric's heir and successor has not been revealed yet.
