Monford Velaryon is the Lord of the Tides, Master of Driftmark, and head of House Velaryon. Aurane Waters is his bastard half-brother.[1]

Appearance

Monford is handsome with long, fair hair. He sometimes wears sea-green silk with a white gold seahorse brooch.[2]

Recent Events

A Clash of Kings

As a vassal of Dragonstone, Monford supports Stannis Baratheon's claim to the Iron Throne. However, he threatens to take his forces home if they do not strike soon.[2] Lord Monford is present when Melisandre burns the sept on Dragonstone. When Ser Davos Seaworth notices that Monford watches Stannis rather than the conflagration, Davos thinks to himself the highborn Lord Velaryon would never confide in a man as lowborn as Davos.[3]

A Storm of Swords

It is reported by Lord Alester Florent that Lord Monford burned with his ship, Pride of Driftmark, on the Blackwater Rush during the Battle of the Blackwater.[4] He is succeeded by his young son, Monterys Velaryon.[5]

Quotes

The others bobbed their heads up and down like a flock of geese, all but Velaryon, who said that steel would decide the matter, not words on parchment. As if I had never suspected.[3]
