Lady Mysaria was a dancer from Lys. Lyseni prostitutes and her rivals dubbed her Misery, the White Worm, because of her pale appearance and her reputation.[1][2]

History

Mysaria became the lover of Prince Daemon Targaryen in King's Landing, and she quickly became his favorite. Around 105 AC, Mysaria became pregnant with Daemon's child while living at Dragonstone. Daemon gave her a dragon egg for the child, which angered King Viserys I Targaryen. The king ordered Daemon to return the egg and send Mysaria back to Lys. On her return to Lys, she lost the child during a storm on the narrow sea.[1]

During the Dance of the Dragons, Mysaria was involved in the assassination of Prince Jaehaerys, the eldest son of King Aegon II Targaryen, when Daemon desired revenge for the death of his stepson, Prince Lucerys Velaryon. She was Daemon's go-between, a "pale stranger" whom he trusted. To kill the prince she hired two assassins, Blood and Cheese.[3][4]

At some point Mysaria became Daemon's mistress of whisperers,[1][2] but didn't join Rhaenyra's small council when the blacks took King's Landing. According to Mushroom, Mysaria stopped Rhaenyra from having Alicent Hightower's tongue ripped out and instead proposed the Dowager Queen and Queen Helaena Targaryen to be taken to a certain brothel so they would be forcibly impregnated with bastard offspring. She also accused Nettles of having betrayed Rhaenyra by sharing the bed of her Prince [5]

After Lord Corlys Velaryon was imprisoned for warning Addam Velaryon of his impending arrest under charges of treason, Lady Misery learned of the plans of the Sea Snake's sworn swords, Ser Denys Woodwright and Ser Thoron True, to liberate him from a whore Ser Thoron had been bedding. The two knights were promptly arrested and hanged.[6]

During the riot of King's Landing, Mysaria warned Rhaenyra against the coming dark after the queen learned Maidenpool and House Mooton had gone over to the greens, Nettles had fled and her consort had betrayed her.[6] [3] When Rhaenyra ultimately fled the capital, Mysaria remained at the Red Keep among other members of the court.[6]

After Garth the Harelip surrendered the Red Keep to Ser Perkin the Flea and his gutter knights and was executed along with twenty other knights loyal to Rhaenyra, Mysaria was taken while attempting to flee and whipped naked through the city, from the Red Keep to the Gate of the Gods. Ser Perkin promised she would be spared and allowed to go if she reached the gate alive. She only made half the way before dying on the cobblestones.[6]

Legacy

Brynden Rivers was a Hand of the King also said to have "rivaled Lady Misery" as a master of whispers.[7]
