Ser Oswell Whent was a scion of House Whent. He was a member of Aerys II Targaryen's Kingsguard.[1]
Appearance
Oswell was known for his dark humor. On his helm he wore a black bat with its wings spread, symbolizing House Whent.[1]
History
Oswell was present at the Tourney at Harrenhal where Jaime Lannister became a Kingsguard.[2] According to Barristan Selmy, Lord Whent, Oswell's older brother, announced the tourney shortly after a visit from Oswell.[3]
In his feverish dreams Eddard Stark remembers he met Ser Oswell and two other knights of the Kingsguard, Ser Gerold Hightower and Ser Arthur Dayne, at the Tower of Joy. Eddard told them that King's Landing had already fallen and that King Aerys II was dead. In the ensuing conflict all three Kingsguard were killed. Eddard had been with six northern companions, but he and Howland Reed were the only survivors.[1]
