Queenscrown is an abandoned tower holdfast with a village west of the kingsroad in the Gift, south of the Wall.[1]

A stone causeway lies beneath the water that surrounds the holdfast, it is not a straigth path but it ziggs and zaggs going a third of a way around the island before jagging back. The turns are treacherous, and the long path meant that anyone approaching would be exposed to arrow fire from the tower for a long time. When entering the tower true the stout oak door there is a small storeroom with a murder hole above it, from there steps built into the inner wall of the tower curve away upward to the left to the upper stories, and downward to the right into a under vault, both directions are locked behind iron grates. The second floor of the tower is a maze of small cells. The third floor of the tower has arrow slits, while the fourth has windows. The fifth floor is a large round chamber with three sides opening onto stone balconies, and along the fourth side is a privy chamber above the water. The tower's merlons are painted gold. The remnants of an inn and village can still be seen surrounded by apple and oak trees.[2]

History

During a visit to the north, Queen Alysanne Targaryen flew to the Wall on her dragon, Silverwing. She stayed at this holdfast on her way, so the villagers painted the merlons atop the tower gold.[3]

Recent Events

A Storm of Swords

Bran Stark, Hodor, and Meera Reed and Jojen Reed stay overnight at Queenscrown on their march to the Wall. While they wait out a storm, a northman passing through arrives and stays in the ruined village to also wait out the storm. The wildling party which includes Jon Snow arrives and captures the man, however. Although Jon balks at killing the stranger, Ygritte kills the man anyway.[2][3]

A Dance with Dragons

Exploring the vicinity of Castle Black, Stannis Baratheon travels the kingsroad almost as far as Queenscrown.[4]
