Ser Rolland Storm, known as the Bastard of Nightsong, is the bastard son of Lord Bryen Caron, the late head of House Caron. He worships the Warrior, an aspect of the Faith of the Seven, with a faith as fierce as he is. [1]

Appearance and Character

Rolland's face is covered in scars from the pox.[2] He is fierce.

Recent Events

A Clash of Kings

Presumably Ser Rolland joins his trueborn half-brother, Lord Bryce Caron, in declaring for Renly Baratheon at the outset of the War of the Five Kings, and in joining Stannis Baratheon after Renly's assassination at Storm's End.

Rolland commands the rearguard after the disastrous end to the Battle of the Blackwater, allowing Stannis to reach the safety of Salladhor Saan's fleet.[1] He returns with his liege to Dragonstone.

A Storm of Swords

After the death of Lord Bryce at the Blackwater, Rolland is a pretender to the titles "Lord of Nightsong" and "Lord of the Marches" against their Lannister-backed claimant, Ser Philip Foote, the man who killed his brother.[3]

Rolland is among the King's Men, those Lord Davos Seaworth seeks out who are still loyal to Stannis without being believers in the new faith.[1] He is part of Davos's plot to send Edric Storm away from Dragonstone. He remains with Lord Davos when he confronts King Stannis Baratheon and Melisandre.[2]

Once at the Wall the king sends word to Rolland on Dragonstone to begin mining obsidian. [4]

A Feast for Crows

Ser Rolland commands the small garrison Stannis left to hold Dragonstone after he sailed north. Queen Cersei Lannister considers him a seasoned killer.[5] Lord Paxter Redwyne is sent to besiege Dragonstone to appease the Queen Regent and nullify the closet threat to King's Landing. However, when the Shield Islands in the Reach are attacked, Ser Loras Tyrell begs to take command so that the Redwyne Fleet can return to defend their homelands.

Upon arrival, Loras offers Rolland single combat, which he declines. The resulting assault costs more than a thousand lives and severely injures Loras, but Rolland is unable to hold the keep and Dragonstone is finally taken by the Iron Throne. Rolland's current status is unknown.[6]
