A Clash of Kings
Ser Rolland commanded the rear guard after the disastrous end to the Battle of the Blackwater that allowed Stannis I to reach the safety of his fleet.[4]
A Storm of Swords
Ser Rolland was among those Ser Davos Seaworth sought out who will still loyal to Stannis without being believers in the new faith.[5] Now a notable member of the King's Men, he was part of Davos' plot to send Edric Storm away from Dragonstone. He remained with Lord Davos when he confronted the King and the Priestess.[6]
A Feast for Crows
Ser Rolland commands the garrison Stannis left behind to hold Dragonstone after he sailed north. Queen Cersei Lannister considers him a seasoned killer.[7] Lord Paxter Redwyne was sent to besiege Dragonstone to appease the Queen Regent and nullify the closet threat to King's Landing. However, when the Shield Islands in the Reach were attacked, Ser Loras Tyrell begged to take command so that the Redwyne Fleet could return to defend their homelands.
Upon arrival, Ser Loras offered Ser Rolland to single combat which he declined. The resulting assault cost more than a thousand lives and severely injured Ser Loras but Ser Rolland was unable to hold the keep and Dragonstone was finally taken back by the Iron Throne. His current status is unknown.
