Appearance and Character

Shadrich is a wiry, fox-faced man with a sharp nose and bristly orange hair. He is not a tourney knight; he saves his valor for the battlefield. He rides a rangy courser. Though he is not more than five foot two, he has a cocksure manner and is sharp-witted. Brienne of Tarth thinks that he has the sort of easy arrogance that comes with skill at arms.

Ser Shadrich fought on the losing side of the Battle of the Blackwater and was forced to pay a ransom he could not afford, meaning that he was ruined financially.

Recent Events

A Feast for Crows

Ser Shadrich is a hired knight for the merchant Hibald and his serving men. He is escorting them to Duskendale when Brienne of Tarth, Ser Creighton Longbough and Ser Illifer the Penniless come upon them. The three travelers offer to journey with Hibald to Duskendale.

As they resume their journey Shadrich drops back to talk to Brienne. When Brienne says she is searching for her lost sister, Shadrich realizes that it is Sansa Stark that Brienne seeks. To Brienne's dismay he tells her a short while later,

You are not the only hunter in the woods. I seek for Sansa Stark as well.[1]

Shadrich explains to Brienne that Varys is offering a plump bag of gold for Sansa. He tells her that the money that he would receive for finding her would return him to the status he had enjoyed before losing at the Battle of the Blackwater.[1] Shadrich informs her that he is not a greedy man and if Brienne were to help him find Sansa he would split the Varys's coin with her. Brienne carries on pretending that it is her sister that she is seeking and tells him that she knows no Sansa Stark. Ser Shadrich becomes sarcastic as he knows that she is lying.

After Brienne abandons her traveling companions at the Old Stone Bridge she worries that Shadrich might be following her, but the person following her turns out to be Podrick Payne.

Ser Shadrich eventually turns up at the Gates of the Moon as a newly-hired hedge knight in service to Lord Petyr Baelish. Along with Ser Byron and Ser Morgarth, Shadrich is introduced to Alayne Stone in the west tower of the Gates.[2]
