About Marwyn's credibility and the supposed conspiracy

There is more than a little bit of irony in that Marwyn, an Archmaester, is spreading the idea that the Maesters are in some shadowy conspiracy to eradicate magic in general and dragons in particular. Some people seen to take it as established fact that he is right, for no reason I can figure.

Incidentally, he himself claims that he cannot be trusted, which I guess can be taken in at least two contrasting ways.

Of interest is that the current version of the Dance of the Dragons article has this text as part of its Consequences of the Dance section:

The war is the subject of the song "The Dance of the Dragons", as well as a somewhat inaccurate history by Grand Maester Munkun. Archmaester Gyldayn wrote a history of it called The Princess and the Queen or the Blacks and the Greens.

Which is to say, there are surviving, conflicting accounts of the Dance by different Maesters, one of which is an Archmaester. Mulkun, despite being acknowledged by Tyrion as giving an innacurate account, lived during the time of the Dance and went on to become a Council member and Hand of the King. Gyldayn lived well over a century later, yet is taken to have the more accurate account. That may be seen by some as evidence for the existence of the conspiracy, although I do not. I think the very fact that Marwyn is an Archmaester is strong evidence that the conspiracy does not exist. LuisDantas 10:56, 2 March 2015 (UTC)
