Alias Tanselle Too-Tall
Book The Hedge Knight

Tanselle, called Tanselle Too-Tall, was a Dornish puppeteer during the reign of Daeron II. She was slim, with small breasts. Her hair was black and her skin tone resembled the color of olives.[1]

The Hedge Knight

Ser Duncan the Tall asked her to paint his shield after seeing her puppet show.[2] While performing a skit about the death of a dragon, she was attacked and insulted and had one of her fingers broken by Prince Aerion Targaryen, who took issue with the dragon's death in the play, calling it treason. Ser Duncan the Tall came to her rescue, but was taken prisoner for striking one of the royal princes.[3] Tanselle and her family left for Dorne as quickly as possible afterwards, but she left behind Ser Duncan's painted shield, under the cares of Steely Pate.[4]

The Sworn Sword

At some point between the ending of The Hedge Knight and the start of The Sworn Sword, Dunk and Egg reached Prince's Pass and later Vaith in Dorne, probably seeking Tanselle as hinted by the last few words of The Hedge Knight.[5]

By the time they left Dorne Dunk had given up on trying to find Tanselle or even talking about her[6]. It is not stated inequivocally whether or not they found her, but Dunk states that he should be dreaming of her and that they never actually touched each other, even in a chaste way.[7]
