The Tower of Dread is one of Harrenhal's five melted towers. It is near the middle bailey and the mews.[1]

History

The tower's original name was lost with the death of Harren the Black, the builder of Harrenhal, in the burning of Harrenhal during Aegon's Conquest. It has since been renamed the Tower of Dread.[2]

The sickly and impoverished Lord Maegor Towers only utilized the Tower of Dread. Here he lived with his household of a cook and three men-at-arms until his death in 61 AC. Queen Rhaena Targaryen, who lived in the Widow's Tower, took care of Maegor's servants after he died.[3]

Recent Events

A Clash of Kings

When Lord Tywin Lannister holds the castle, northmen and rivermen captured in the battle on the Green Fork are held in the upper chambers of the Tower of Dread.[2]
