Hi PL,

In the past you have added maps as references: [[A Game of Thrones-Map of the North]] and [[A Storm of Swords-Map of the North]]. The maps are then registered as not yet existing articles.
+
Hi Pale Griffin,

Of course the maps are references but officially the maps are copyright. So what are we going to do? I think we have the following options:
+
I've seen that you've put some "Lady Charlston" is given as Walder River's wife in the gentrees of some articles. I have not been able to find a source for this. * Scan the maps from the book and add them under "fair use". This is the same as the images of the book covers.

* Other option is to change the reference from a link to an article to a hard copy reference. Instead we could add the [http://awoiaf.westeros.org/index.php/File:The_North.pngnew non-copyright maps] which we can change as we see fit, to the articles itself.

:I have found & uploaded a number of maps that are based on a non copyright map that was originally made on wikipedia. The original wik map it is licensed under the GNU which means we can freely use and change it. I used Paint to add a few names of towns & castles. There is currently a map for each region (see for instance [[the North]]), and also on of the whole of Westeros: see [[Westeros]].

== Khal Drogo's death ==
:NB They are still very basic maps, just the rivers and the place of the town, not very fancy.

:About the spoilers: I guess if we just add geographical info it will not spoil the story. We can start there.

I see that when you created the [[Red Waste]] article you wrote that that's where [[Khal Drogo]] died, but I think that's wrong. Didn't he died on the Dothraki Sea? The first mention of the [[Red Waste]] is in [[A Clash of Kings]]. --[[User:Dieguez|Dieguez]] 21:29, 8 February 2013 (UTC)

:If we would want to show for instance the travels of Daenerys then it is different. We should use a different map for those kind of things. We can copy a "normal map" and change it. I believe that on La Guarde de Nuit there were using something that hides the info unless you press it to show it. I'll have a look. [[User:Scafloc|Scafloc]] 18:28, 18 March 2011 (CDT)

Hi PG, I did not mean you with my remark. Just wanted to remind some people that the wiki is not a "You shout, we do it" system. If someone has (stong) opinions about the wiki that is great. The worst thing would be if everyone was indifferent. But changes are made by doing things not by shouting to others, like you and me, to change it. I hope the other guys take the hint. Thank you very much for your kind remarks. I had been working on this for a while but was not satisfied with the result. In the end I thought what the heck; I'll just do it. [[User:Scafloc|Scafloc]] 12:28, 11 August 2011 (CDT)

== CSS ==

I tried out some other thing too; I made a personal CSS file.

Using this file allows I can change the layout of the wiki. Currently it is not possible to create a css that works for all users (no authorisation and Rann cannot do it as long as the bridge is not functioning properly). You can give it a try by copying the data from [[User:Scafloc/iceandfire.css]] to you [[User talk:The Pale Griffin/iceandfire.css|personal css file]]. You still have to set [[Special:Preferences#prefsection-1|your preferences]] to "IceAndFire (default | Preview | Custom CSS)". It is really still a first try but I would be grateful for feedback. Especially what we could use as background. Cheers, [[User:Scafloc|Scafloc]] 12:39, 11 August 2011 (CDT)

Hi there, this is the only way i could contact and would appreciate your response, you added "House Hightower is as rich as House Lannister and can field three times as many swords as other Tyrell bannermen. More, if they took everyone possible out of Oldtown." Could you please provide a source for that? I am in the middle of an argument and i need to quote the source. Thanks

It is used exactly in the same way as ''<nowiki><references /> {{references}}</nowiki>'' e.g ''<nowiki><ref> {{ref}}</nowiki>'', <br>used only for internal links, for our chapter summaries<br><br>

The only diffrence that Instead of writing:

:<nowiki><ref>[[Book name]], [[Chapter-Chapter number]] chapter name</ref></nowiki><br>

you can write:

:<nowiki>{{Ref|Book name,Chapter number}}</nowiki><br><br>

which has exactly the result, only shorter and quiker to write (no need to double check the right format/link names/chapter names) and mostly it makes the text more readable by reducing the volume of citation spam to actual information. plus it's consistent with other citation templates we use e.g. <nowiki>{{citation needed}}</nowiki> and makes them all  easily distinguishable from the actual text<br><br>

So for example in this case, instead of this:

:<nowiki>The mighty [[Ghis|Ghiscari Empire]] tried to stop the city's expansion, fighting five major wars that were each won by the Valyrians.<ref>[[A Storm of Swords]], [[A Storm of Swords-Chapter 27|Chapter 27]], Daenerys</ref> The last battle destroyed the Ghiscari Empire and its capital of Old Ghis five thousand years ago.<ref>[[A Storm of Swords]], [[A Storm of Swords-Chapter 23|Chapter 23]], Daenerys</ref> Over the years the Valyrians continued to conquer, building great cities and roadways that all led to Valyria. Many smaller nations, such as the [[Rhoynar]], fled west to avoid Valyrian expansion. Valyria took many slaves from its conquered lands and used them to mine deep into the earth. At the height of its power, the Freehold stretched over most of the eastern continent. Cities built by the Valyrian Freehold include [[Oros]], [[Mantarys]], [[Tyria]]{{citation needed}}, and all of the [[Free Cities]] except [[Braavos]].<ref>[[A Feast for Crows]], [[A Feast for Crows-Chapter 33|Chapter 33]], Jaime</ref> Of the fabled great cities, the topless towers are remembered for their great beauty.<Ref>[[A Game of Thrones]], [[A Game of Thrones-Chapter 34|Chapter 34]], Catelyn</ref></nowiki><br>

We got this:

:<nowiki> The mighty [[Ghis|Ghiscari Empire]] tried to stop the city's expansion, fighting five major wars that were each won by the Valyrians.{{Ref|aSoS|27}}The last battle destroyed the Ghiscari Empire and its capital of Old Ghis five thousand years ago.{{Ref|aSoS|23}}Over the years the Valyrians continued to conquer, building great cities and roadways that all led to Valyria.
