Vulture King
Aliases
Died In 61 AC, the Red Mountains of Dorne
Book Fire & Blood (mentioned)

The second Vulture King was a self-proclaimed Dornish king who raided in the Third Dornish War during the reign of King Jaehaerys I Targaryen.[1] Whether he was related by blood to other "Vulture Kings" is unknown.[2]

History

The second Vulture King was believed to be the minor son of a minor house in Dorne. While the first Vulture King had commanded an army of thousands, the second had a force of a few hundred brigands and outlaws who shared his taste for robbery and rape. His band was later joined by Ser Borys Baratheon, an embittered younger brother of Rogar Baratheon, Lord of Storm's End. With Borys's knowledge of the stormlands, the Vulture King raided with more success, always retreating back to the Red Mountains before a force could be mustered to attack him. He knew the mountain terrain well and always disappeared when pursued, and he launched cunning ambushes upon would-be pursuers.[1]

King Jaehaerys I Targaryen used Vermithor to burn the Vulture King's scattered mountain camps. When the outlaw king was captured at the end of the Third Dornish War, Lord Rogar ordered his chains removed and that he be given a spear and shield. Rogar commanded that if the Vulture King managed to slay him, he was to be set free. The Vulture proved unable for the task and was cut down by Rogar with ease.[1]

In 83 AC Morion Martell, Prince of Dorne, began the ill-fated Fourth Dornish War, as he resented that his princely father had not supported the second Vulture King.[1]

Quotes

He calls himself a vulture but he does not fly. He hides. He should call himself the gopher.[1]
