Wayfarer's Rest is the seat of House Vance of Wayfarer's Rest in the riverlands,[1] probably located in the western part of the region near the Red Fork and the border with the westerlands.[N 1]

History

Queen Rhaena Targaryen and her dragon, Dreamfyre, briefly stayed with the Vances of Wayfarer's Rest.[2]

Recent Events

A Game of Thrones

Karyl Vance becomes Lord of Wayfarer's Rest after the death of his father in the battle in the hills below the Golden Tooth.[3]

A Storm of Swords

After the Battle of Oxcross, captives such as Ser Lymond Vikary are held here.[1]

Behind the Scenes

Wayfarer's Rest is a reference by George R. R. Martin to Liane the Wayfarer from The Dying Earth by Jack Vance.

Notes

  1. During the early stage of both the Dance of the Dragons and the War of the Five Kings the riverlands was invaded by a westermen host. A rivermen host composed of men sworn to House Piper of Pinkmaiden Castle and House Vance of Wayfarer's Rest, was hastly gathered on both occasion to repel the invasions. Given that Pinkmaiden's location is known to be on the Red Fork near the border with the westerlands, everything suggests Wayfarer's Rest is also located in this general area of the riverlands.
