Gods' Way

The Gods' Way is one of the four straight streets which starts at the unnamed great square in the center of King's Landing (the three others being: the King's Way, the Muddy Way and the Street of the Sisters).[1] It likely leads to the Gate of the Gods.[N 1]

History

King's Landing rapidly grew without any planning during the first century following Aegon's Conquest, so much so that by the reign of King Jaehaerys I Targaryen, the streets were close by each other, dark and filthy. In 52 AC, Jaehaerys ordered a reconstruction of the streets, which included the construction of a great central square, carved out and planted with trees, with markets and arcades beneath. From this square sprung the Gods' Way.[1]

Notes

  1. It is known there are four straight streets which sprung from the great square in the center of the city (Fire & Blood, Birth, Death, and Betrayal Under King Jaehaerys I). We know the location of the Muddy Way and the Street of the Sisters (The Lands of Ice and Fire, King's Landing), leaving the location of the God's Way and the King's Way unknown. However, one of the unnamed streets goes to the Gate of the Gods and the other to the Red Keep, making it likely that the Gods' Way is the street leading up to the Gate of the Gods, while the King's Way leads to the Red Keep, the seat of the King.
