He is well past seventy years old. He is called "Old Henly" by his black brothers to differentiate him from Young Henly, who is called that despite being well past fifty years old.[3]

Old Henly is among the men that Bowen Marsh leaves behind to defend Castle Black. He dies during the attack on Castle Black.[3]
