Horas Redwyne, mocked as Ser Horror, is a knight of House Redwyne and heir to the Arbor. He is the son of Paxter Redwyne, Lord of the Arbor, and Lady Mina Tyrell, and he is the older twin to Ser Hobber.[4]

Appearance and Character

Horas is homely with orange hair and a square, freckled face.[1]

Horas despises Samwell Tarly, the son of Lord Randyll Tarly.[5] Sansa Stark and Jeyne Poole mock Horas and his brother, Ser Hobber, as Ser Horror and Ser Slobber, respectively.[1] Queen Cersei Lannister is unable to tell the the twins apart[6] and does not consider them to be particularly intelligent.[7]

Horas has a chestnut mare.[1]

History

When Samwell Tarly was sent to the Arbor to become a page, Horas and Hobber teased and humiliated him. When Sam begged for quarter while training in the practice yard, Horas made him squeal like a pig. Horas was supposed to become a ward at Horn Hill and learn from Lord Randyll Tarly, but the plans fell through because of Sam's unsuitability at the Arbor.[5]

Recent Events

A Game of Thrones

Ser Horas and his brother, Ser Hobber, take part in the Hand's tourney in King's Landing. Horas is unhorsed by Jory Cassel in his first joust.[8]

The twins remain in the capital after the death of King Robert I Baratheon,[9] and they are present for the execution of Lord Eddard Stark at the Great Sept of Baelor.[1]

A Clash of Kings

The Iron Throne keeps the Redwyne twins as hostages for the good behavior of their father, Lord Paxter Redwyne, during the War of the Five Kings.[10] Unlike other lords from the Reach, Paxter refrains from joining his forces to that of Renly Baratheon, the uncle and rival of King Joffrey I Baratheon.[11]

During the tourney on King Joffrey's name day, Horas encourages Hobber in the lists, then rushes to his brother's aid after his is unhorsed by Ser Meryn Trant. Joffrey is not impressed when Horas unhorses an elderly knight bedecked with silver griffins on a striped blue and white field.[12]

Horas and Hobber attempt to sneak out of King's Landing by bribing a guard and sailing away on Moonrunner, but the plot is discovered by Lord Varys. Tyrion Lannister, the Hand of the King, has the guard seized and encouraged to join the Night's Watch, and the twins are placed under closer supervision.[13]

The twins are in attendance when Tyrion holds court in the throne room,[14] and they ignore Sansa Stark after the Battle of Oxcross.[15]

While Hobber is returned to their father as a show of good faith by accompanying Lord Petyr Baelish to Bitterbridge, Horas remains a hostage in the capital.[16]

Ser Horas is among the procession to see Princess Myrcella Baratheon off to Dorne. He protects Lady Tanda Stokeworth during the riots in King's Landing.[17]

Horas is injured in the Battle of the Blackwater.[18] Paxter, Hobber, and a limping Horas are among those honored in the throne room after the battle.[18]

A Storm of Swords

Sansa notices one of the Redwyne twins sparring with Ser Tallad the Tall in an inner yard of the Red Keep.[19]

Lord Tywin Lannister, now Joffrey's Hand, considers having his daughter, the widowed Queen Cersei Lannister, wed one of the Redwyne twins.[20]

A Feast for Crows

Horas, Hobber, and their father Paxter attend Tywin's funeral at the Great Sept.[21]

According to Taena Merryweather, the twins are both in love with Queen Margaery, now the wife of King Tommen I Baratheon, forgetting their arguments over who will be the next Lord of the Arbor and instead wanting to join the Kingsguard just to be near her.[7] Horas and Hobber visit with Margaery often, with Horas taking up the lute and Hobber bringing fruit and flowers.[22] During one of Margaery's riding expeditions, the brothers escort Meredyth Crane and Janna Fossoway.[23] On another occasion, Queen Regent Cersei Lannister sees Ser Osmund Kettleblack sparring in the yard with one of the brothers.[6]

As part of her plan to remove Margaery, Cersei has the Blue Bard include the Redwyne twins among those alleged to have slept with the younger queen. So as not not to lose the support of Redwyne fleet,[24] Cersei intends for the brothers to be falsely accused. Arrest warrants are signed for Horas and Hobber, and they are given comfortable rooms in a tower.[25]

A Dance with Dragons

The Redwyne twins are declared innocent.[26]

Quotes

This is a feeble show.[12]

So long as I hold those poxy twins of his, Lord Paxter will squat on the Arbor and count himself fortunate to be out of it.[11]

Slobber brings flowers and fruit, and Horror's taken up the lute. To hear Osney tell it, you could make a sweeter sound strangling a cat.[22]
